Came back a few days ago. On the five hour flight, instead of the normal breakfast, we were give one anaemic smoked ham and cheddar croissant (complete with E250, E451 and E301 additives) and a small pack of two thin oat and honey crunchy bars. Inadequate and unappetizing. YUK!!

Well it's a matter of taste, we always fly with TA and I never like the "hot" food, I often opt for vegetarian or a fruit platter

Just out of interest...
Was the flight from Gatwick? - The food on those flights always seems less appetising (to me!) than the food that you get on the Heathrow runs...

We flew BA from Heathrow to Larnaca end of March. Food was also sandwich type snack. Apparently it has been same for a while now. No hot meals served. One reason we have heard for this is something to do with the collapse of Cyprus Airways with whom BA had an agreement for the provision of hot meals on its flights. Not sure if this is correct and we would have thought from UK a hot meal could be supplied.
We knew about lack of hot meal service so purchased Plane Fare meal from Gordon Ramseys restaurant in T5. It was very good in our opinion.
However I will say that the meals we have had on TA have been excellent. Choice of hot meal on long leg to or from Heathrow - Istanbul - Heathrow, good drinks selection. Plus even on the short hop to Ercan always had sandwich snack and drinks.

Past few flights have barn BA and it has been dreadful food. I try and do Turkish Airways but lately always afraid the short time changeover will miss flight. Turkish Airlines I think are much better all round.

Food in flight to Cyprus is not our major consideration, however it does waste away 40 mins.

Cyprus Airways used to do the catering, BA are supposedly looking at alternatives but apparently 1) has proved too expensive, the kitchens of another didn't meet their hygiene standards. I have emailed and complained and suggest that the more people who do the better, their charges are constantly rising and the service doesn't always suggest value for money. The food is being brought out from the UK and I have concerns about food safety come July and August when the plane is on the ground 5hours and maybe more from its starting point. I would change airlines but terminal 5 and flight times in the meantime suit, however have started trying the alternatives.

I would prefer no food if it made flights cheaper

Thanks for your interesting comments. We use BA because it’s convenient for us. We have always heard that TA’s food is very good but haven’t chosen to use them because of the delays during changeover at Istanbul Airport and their ticket prices. We are able to manage 4-5 hours without food but when you add on travelling time to the Airport and check-in, it can be considerably longer. If sandwiches are to be the norm, we will certainly try Gordon Ramsey’s Plane Fare Meal. when travelling from Heathrow. However, on a five hour flight, we feel it’s not unreasonable to expect a hot meal, unless, of course, you have opted for a no-food Pegasus flight, and a meal does help to while away the time. We feel that BA have introduced this sandwich snack in a sneaky fashion. We feel they should have been more upfront and advised passengers prior to their journey that they would be serving cold food instead of the normal hot, or even given the option of a with-food or without-food ticket. Of course, we could always pay an extra £185 (used to be £100) for an upgrade to Club class and I suppose then we would get a hot breakfast!!

TA were down to £175 a couple of weeks ago now about £225 not bad cheaper than a London Manchester train at peak times

It doesn't matter what time the flight is you get the same chicken wrap, cheese roll, biscuits cheese and chocolate mousse, although yes I have had the peculiar tasting croissant on 0710 from Heathrow! I too have complained, also BA now charge if you pay by credit card from UK, £5 and the new planes (one of which was the 0710 from Heathrow!) seem to have smaller seats and leg room, e.g the exit seats have a drop down table so you can see the leg room has been considerably cut down there! How a larger person would be expected to get out of the exit doors I do not know! They are not doing themselves any favours at the moment as is said Turkish Airlines are now viable competition!

You have a choice, you fly into the north with the proper airline or you choose to fly into the south with the rest,I know which one I would go for.
