Hi all, does anyone know who to call regarding construction on Sunday? The 102 number I found online to report it just goes to answerphone.

I may well be wrong but I understood the moratorium on Sunday construction was canned... if not, I'd like to know too....

Called police in the end, they were up in 15 minutes and sent them all on their way. Finally some peace. They can only work Sundays with a special permit.

That is very good to hear. Years ago the police would arrive, tell them to stop, then when the police had gone they would start again.

I thought that in a Muslim country Sunday was a working day, and that Friday was the Muslim "Sunday" religious day?

topten, exactly my question too. Why cannot a prominently Sunni Moslem country not work on a Sunday? Shops, garages et al are all open - why not construction?

One may call the police if construction work is going on - and they do indeed respond as it is the law. Why the law? Don't know, but probably a hang over from the old days of British rule and when the island wa sone with the Greek Orthodox church claling many of the tunes re everyday life. It might even get altered in time.

One could equally ask 'Why dont they observe their own 'sabbath' on a Friday' but the fact is that they don't. I guess it is another case of 'Ours not to reason why, ours but to do or die' or 'When in Rome......................'

Marions.
With the AK party in power in Turkey the shops are open on Fridays and most are shut on Sundays.
So it is not just in the TRNC.
