Crossing to south with car for first time. Crossing via Metehan.

Think we need
UK licence
North Cyprus Car Docs
North Cyprus Insurance
North Cyprus MOT

Firstly anything else needed?

When we arrive at Metehan do we need anything further from the North Cyprus checkpoint before we then go to the GC checkpoint.? Authorisation?

At the GC checkpoint we need insurance for the south? Anything else..BRS website says we need south Cyprus Tax certificate before we can get insurance? What is this and where do we get it?

A quick list of what is needed and what formalities are done at each checkpoint would be helpful.

THANKS

You get your tax certificate from office to the left of security Greek side. As I remember it they close at 13-00 & are not open weekends. Once you have this, buy insurance from booth, they will attach certificate to this. Lasts 12 months, insurance minimum 1 month. You list what to take is ok.

You will need to take account of the times that they are open to issue the 'Substitute Tax / MOT' (not sure which it is!) document.

The info may already be on here somewhere, but if not, someone will be along any minute to tell you

Went this morning to renew my Greek road tax as it would be closed when I cross to pick up neighbours on Thursday ..
All the policeman asked for was the car log book & my UK driving licence ..
As I handed over the log book, I thought "oh no" it was a copy & not the original ..
He duly processed it, smiled as he handed everything back & said "have a nice day" ..

It is MOT - that's why they need to see the car as well as the docs.... we tried to renew it once for our car when going over with friends in their car and they refused because 'the engineer needs to see that the vehicle is roadworthy' - in true Cypriot fashion, when we returned with the car, he could not have shown less interest!

If your vehicle is a hired car (which it doesn't seem to be in your case as you mention MOT and I'm just covering all bases) then written permission from The TRNC car hire company is also needed to show them at the border.
I did it today with no problem in a hired car. Road tax is free and 1 month's insurance was 25 Euros. Enjoy yourselves.

Thanks for advice, pretty sure we understand the process now.
