tried to find them a while ago, the only thing I could find was the paste.
This needs reconstituting with sugar and water till you get the required taste, you may have to thicken with corn flour.
I had someone bring them from the Chinese supermarket in the UK.
I used the beans in the UK in my restaurant and made the black bean sauce with.
1/2 cup beans
3 cups water
1/4 cup cooking oil
2 tbl spoons ground ginger
3 tbl spoons sugar
3 cloves garlic
2 tea spoons 5 spice
Boil them all together for 20 mins, place in liquidizer and ziz till smooth.
Check for seasoning, if you need it smooth as for putting in pancakes strain and place in jar. It will keep wall in the freezer for quite a long time.

Thank you for that Karmels, I will most certainly try that sometime. The blacks beans however that I am looking for on this occasion are the ones used in Creole and South American cuisine and often called Turtle beans.

Pretty sure I saw some in Karaoglanoglu Tempo about two weeks ago. Together with some West Indian bits and pieces.

Well thank you Sophie you were absolutely correct. Unfortunately I think someone on here may have read your post and beat me to it because that section of the shelf was empty! However, looking through the other tins I found one tin of black beans in amongst some other beans. Now all I need to remember is what dish I wanted them for in the first place!

judyvin, do you ever find yourself stood in front of the 'fridge, with the door open, wondering whether you came to put something in, or to take something out?
If not, that's a little treat to look forward to...
