Have you seen evian bottled water in the north

My neighbours great grandchild is visiting soon and she is bottle fed. The babies mother is concerned about the bottled water here as it usually has a high ph level. Apparently Evian has a low ph level but I have not seen it here in the north, can anyone tell me if they have seen it anywhere or recommend a safe alternative.

Not quite sure why some people even stay here when there is no 'evian'
Sorry if sounds negative but not a healthy country for a sensitive baby

Evian has a PH of 7.9 so close to real water at PH 8 according to this link.

I drink Erikli here in NC because it has a low sodium content and was advised on Cyprus 44 years ago when asking for best water for a visiting baby.
Hope this helps, Helena

I wouldn't argue or disagree for a moment about suitability of different bottled (or natural) water where health issues are concerned, adult or child - but I remember with considerable amusement an occasion when a rather precious, self-important "celebrity" was proclaiming "I only drink Evian - anything else is so common...", whereupon a bystander retorted, "If you believe that, just spell the name in reverse....."

I have not seen any here.
How about filtering the water as message 2, they can bring something with them from the UK for their holiday?

Hi Helena,
Could you tell me where you buy Erikla from please, as I have not seen this in the supermarkets east side of Kyrenia.
Thank you for your replies so far.

Just in case anyone is confused by the term - 'RealWater' is a BRAND NAME for a particular bottled water, it doesn't mean that 'proper' water should have a PH of 8.0 .
In fact PH 8.0 is near the upper limit of PH recommended by the World Health Organisation (W.H.O.) - they say that drinking water should have a PH of 6.5 to 8.5.
There are those who claim that water with a high PH is beneficial, and there are those who vigorously proclaim the opposite - if you read all of the competing claims, then you will end up thoroughly confused by all of the semi-scientific claptrap
Having just done a quick (uncalibrated, non-scientific!) test, I can report that the 19Ltr bottles from 'Hediye' appear to have a PH of around 7.8, as does my tap water (Alsancak, 'Sea' side). The results may be different at different times, of course...
I appreciate that parents must use their own judgement regarding the health of their offspring, which cannot be an easy job!
Good luck with that...

It's a wonder how the local babies ever manage to grow up, including those born to ex-pats.

TBW, I have bought ERIKLI from Illeli Alsancak and also a local supermarket to me which name escapes me but it is up the top of the road on the right hand side on the road that leads to Zetinlik from the water fountain roundabout. Sorry I can be more explicit, but I am sure that one of the helpful members of KK forum will look in the supermarkets on east side for you.

Just drink the local water, filter it, or buy bottles. Then get on with your life, remembering that people in less nice places have filthy water or no water, and that animals here will soon be dying of No water .PH get over it

While that might be considered to be suitable advice for an adult, it seems a trifle harsh when directed at a mother concerned for her infant's well being.
I have no idea of the implications that consuming different types of water might pose for a baby's health, and I doubt that you do either.
The child in question may well have a medical condition that makes it imperative to consider such factors, but in any event, you cannot reasonably expect a parent to play Russian Roulette with a child's life...
I realise that there are more important Global issues, and that there are other people and animals which are in much more dire situations, but that does not negate the concern of a parent for their own child - it
is their prime responsibility, after all.

Thank you Keith for your reply to this rude response. I agree with the comments if the water was for an adult but we are talking about a 10 week old baby. It is up to the babies mother to do what she thinks is best for the infant.
Thanks to everyone else for their comments and help.

Sorry, just seen this post. My grumpy and outspoken hubby uses my log in to comment on here. I am the nicer one and apologise for the rudeness.
Think I may have to bar him somehow!

That's a relief - I was beginning to think that you were Bipolar!

Thanks Keith, actually I thought I was as well when I saw the post!
Starlit Dragstar, thanks, although I am not as rude as my hubby I tend to agreewith you. If you take a torch into your garden at night, and look at the dust and detritus in the air, you will immediately stop worrying about the water quality

starlitdragster,
I am not an idiot and I was merely trying to help a neighbour by posting about evian water. If it was for me, like you I couldn't give a nick which water I drink. I am 73 years old and have managed perfectly well drinking water from around the world without any ill affects. However, the health authorities in England are advising new mothers to be aware of how much sodium is in bottled water, which I understand is bad for babies. When I had my children they didn't know about these things, so my kids had their bottles made from good old tap water. As it is now known about the dangers of too much sodium for babies, would it not be totally irresponsible if new mothers ignored this information?

I would like the moderators to close this thread please. There are some posters who are making this forum more like the old Cyprus44 and we all know what happened to that! I have been a member of both forums and have never posted an abusive reply to anyone but I am shocked by some members on here. I was trying to help a neighbour, what a shame that is not acceptable any more.

I recently had visitors including a young infant to stay and although we just boiled water ourselves I noticed that in supreme in the nappy isle they actually sell bottled water for babies. I can't remember the brand but might be worth looking into.

The baby water available out here is Hayat Bebek Su, and while it is packaged for infants (double cap, cap adapter for toddlers etc.) it is actually the same Hayat water as all other Hayat bottled water, or at least that is what they say on their website.
