The British Residents Society have tickets that provide free entry to Escape beach for BRS members and their nominated number of friends. This is in addition to the swipe cards available to BRS members that will provide a 50% discount for them and their nominated number of friends to Escape Beach, with a 10% discount on food and drink purchased there.

Contact the BRS for more information, and well done for negotiating this deal.

Free entry vouchers to Escape Beach Club will continue to be available to BRS members in the coming weeks.

They will be available to members on production of their 2015 membership card from normal BRS contact points:

Saturdaymornings at Lambousa Market, Lapta, the Hut in Girne and Eddie's Restaurant and Bar, Bogaz, ISKELE.

Hi, yes, it is directly behind the Post Office, next to the Library and NCCT shop. It is open from 10.00 - 12.00 am

Is escape the one which allows us to listen to ultra loud music well into the early hours and has blighted our holidays in Karaman for some years now ??

I am still not clear as to why Escape can charge for coming to that beach? I thought that no corporation could own the beaches inTRNC?

I believe that the law says that beaches are free to all, but of course, they can charge for facilities such as sunbeds, umbrellas etc. Plus now there is a great shop selling hair pieces and hair accessories and one needs access to that. (saying one is a friend of the owner normally makes it O.K.

So one must assume that this free entry is instead of paying for umbrellas, sun loungers etc.

I can understand the 10% off food, but I repeat I cannot understand this 'free entry' for BRS members. Escape Beach has bene in the news many times over charging for entry, but I believe there are other beaches that do that - but as I sai,d against the law.

So please can someone correct me if I am wrong, or at least explain for what Escape charges.

I did post on this subject here, mainly with reference to the Mare Monte beach, but it may answer surfmeetseast's question, but not Marions's (I'm not altogether sure about that last apostrophe... ).

Also, it's only my interpretation of the situation, so do heed the warning at the end...

Oh and to Keith re the apostrophe, I think it should be Marions' cos the s's is meant to be unpronounceable, or at least sound like I am nodding off - zzzzzzzzzzzz.

The TRNC Constitution, Article 38, Protection of Foreshores, is quite clear about access and non payment to access beaches, but as with everything else in TRNC it's finding someone to speak out....maybe they may have found such a person who is willing to speak out, but this has been going on for at least 20 years, how are they going to enforce it now if they couldn't do it or was not willing to do it 20 years ago.

Marion - it should be Marion's".

Normally yes, Kaiser... but my name on the forum is Marions , therefore the possessive must have an apostrophe after the final 's' but of course not with another 's's. If using my name as is 'Marion' then you are absolutely correct.

I have always assumed that the "s" n the end of "marion" is short for the surname.

Grammar Police should never retire! I am also a member of that 'elite' squad whose duty is to ensure that English is not further desecrated but retains a correctness and status as becomes a beautiful language.

But the subject of the plural and 's' (possessive) is one which causes considerable confusion. |Not being one to argue with the Beeb (after all its English was level with that of the Queen in terms of correctness) but I was also taught for myself and to teach, that the 'zzzzzzz' sound at the end of a word was not strictly acceptable.

There was a debate on this when articles were written about the Orams in connection with their Lapta property. They preferred the possessive to be Orams' rather than sounding as if they were nodding off to sleep.

And deep apologies, folks, I have gone completely !

Then there is always the question of how many (if any) commas are needed in the following.....

What else is there to say?

Fight for your rights. If you believe the beach should be free, then complain to the authorities. As I said earlier it happens every year, and it is up to people to claim their rights and ensure that the authorities enforce the law.

Yes, all facilities are avaible to those with vouchers.

Are available does that mean free use of?

The free entry vouchers to the beach club entitle members to everything that others paying the usual TL 20.00 entry fee are entitled to. Hope that helps
