Use of Turkcell phones South of the border

What ever happened to the plan to allow the use of Turkcell/Telsim phones South? Just been over for a day trip to Protaras no signal at all on my Turkcell chip but a full signal on my UK Virgin chip

They have still got the 'Technical Committees' working out the details (everything takes time here ) but it's ongoing...

I can use my Turkcell phone until I get well on my way to the Mall of Cyprus (more or less, then it virtually dies a death) Ledra Palace and Ledra Street areas, nearly perfect reception most of the time. Not sure if I'm paying through the nose for the dubious privilege though?

No extra charges, it is because you are still able to contact a mast in the North, you can even get a signal in Larnaca on occasions!
