Hi,
Does anyone know anything about Diana beach.
I am sure it's a public beach but it has padlocked gate across entrance.
The cafe has all the umbrellas outside but it's not appeared open this year.
Thanks

Hi, it IS a Public Beach, as all beaches are in TRNC, except, I think, The Celebrity, & of course the ones temporarily occupied by the Military
Mehmet Diana says that he 'made' the beach, by putting the sand on it, but that doesn't alter the fact that the Public are, by Law, allowed access to the coastline - sand or no sand.
However, that does not necessarily imply freedom of vehicular access - so he is probably quite within his rights to restrict the movement of vehicles while his staff are not in attendance, but there's nothing to stop you walking around or over...
If he has actually made it impossible for an 'average' person (& I'm not considering the plight of the 'mobility impaired' here, because I've no idea of the ramifications) to gain access, then I would ring the Police - they will normally respond quite readily to this type of call, as the Law & it's implementation is straightforward, which they like

It was opened a few weeks ago and the gates are normally open when we walk our dogs around the tracks at the back there everyday.

Yes , but is it open for the "mobility impaired" (nice PC Keith!) - that is can you park the car overlooking the beach and opposite the cafe, or do you have to park up the hill and walk down?
btw has he "updated" the cafe or is it still just selling hamburgers , beer and tinned soft fizzy drinks?

As I said earlier, the fact that the Public are, by Law, allowed access to the coastline does not necessarily mean that their vehicles must be granted free access, or free parking.
They can, legitimately, demand payment for
anything other than access to the coastline, on foot.
they can also
ask for payment for entrance to the area, on the assumption that you are going to use the facilities, but if you decline to pay, and affirm that you only require access, and are not going to use any of the facilities provided, then they must allow you to pass, free of charge. If they don't - call the Police.
I think that Oris Beach, near the Merit in Alsancak have hit upon the best business model - they have spent a
lot of money developing the beach, and do not charge for anything except for the food and drink that they serve. Consequently, the place is always packed with people spending money...

I cant understand why the beach "owners" - and restaurants with pools - dont issue tickets which could be used against the cost of foood and drink. If they were sensibly priced (more than one beer but a little less than the cheapest meal) most people would be tempted to use them and then spend more than the value of the ticket. And it would stop those who buy one bottle of water for four people as an excuse the use the facilities.
