I can't see what purpose a TRNC police check could be used for in the UK.

Unless they meant to check in case you have any motoring offences/fines outstanding which would prevent you leaving the TRNC at the border, then it would be a good idea to check. If you have they will send you back to the police station to pay any fines outstanding. It takes 2 weeks apparently between offence and being on the police computer system. I have popped in to the police station in Girne (office in far left hand corner on ground floor if I remember rightly) and asked for a check in the past. Easy to do and they do it as a matter of routine.

Maybe the person returning and is planning to work in a sector where you need a CRB check e.g. Care Home, school etc.

Why does an ex pat have to do this, when I know for a fact that a Turkish Cypriot family with a British passport have gone to live in the UK. One member has a record here, so obviously no checks were made, and if they were, why were they allowed in???

Owl Lady as I said if they want to work in specific areas they will need a police check. Our daughter returned from working abroad to work in London and had to provide police checks for the period she was out of the UK to enable her to return to work as a social worker. The person you mentioned would have to provide police checks if he want's to work with children, in schools, in care homes etc.

Griff my wife and I required such a document for another reason some years ago. We went to the Main Police Station in Girne, our nearest (not sure where you live). Spoke with the Duty Inspector, with photocopies of Passport photo page and immigration stamp page, Muhtar's letter of proof of residence, Government Stamps. Come back in 1 week, all done. Pop into your local Police HQ and enquire what the current procedure is.

Do any of you know if I can get this Clearance Letter without being a resident?
I may need it to renew the security clearance for my job.
Whilst I live here, I am never here for more than 3 months due to the nature of my job, so haven't felt it necessary to apply for residency.
Thanks for any advice, Grockle

Given the penultimate sentence in Griff's post, it seems unlikely, but good luck!
