Why would GCs be specifically excluded?Brits, Israelis & goodness knows who else,
own or run companies here, either with or without a TC 51% partner. I would ask the authorities, rather than relying on hearsay

They cannot, the authorities would carry out checks and would not allow a GC to own a company and/or any land/immovable property here, otherwise it would be the thin end of the wedge and they could over time, take over the North, albeit financially. I would not be allowed.

Welldigger,
Have you been told this by someone in authority who controls such matters, or is it just your opinion?
Also, I wasn't talking about land / immovable property.
Is there a Law that stops GCs (and Greeks as well, maybe) from Leasing or Renting properties here? - For holidays maybe?
Anyway, as I said, I wasn't talking about owning Land.
I would be interested to know the number of the Law that specifically prevents GCs from owning a business though...

My understanding, which is almost certainly wrong, is that regarding GC ownership of property in the north there used to be a law prohibiting such ownership based on the 'nationality' of the owner specific to GC but that such a law was amended as required to get the ECHR to accept the IPC as a valid 'local remedy'. I do not think there has ever been a law specific to GC ownership of of businesses in the North. However I do suspect that in purely practical terms it would be very hard for a GC to openly do so here, just based on how hard it is and how many administrative hoops have to be jumped through for any non citizen from anywhere to own a business. As I say my understanding is probably totally but for what its worth that would be my understanding. I am tempted to request that no one 'quote me on that' for no other reason that I know Keithcaley will find in near impossible to not quote me were I to do so and the thought of him struggling to do it or not do it somehow amuses me

There are several Greek Cypriots living here, some have survived the war, they had mixed marriages and had to live in the mountains whilst the trouble were on. The Sultan Restaurant had Greek and Turkish Cypriot music and dancing and both nationalists visit and eat together. From that I would assume they can rent or own property here. The Marionite village has Greek Cypriots there doesn't it, correct me if I'm wrong?

It is my opinion but ALSO what I understand to be the law here and NO I cannot quote specifics with regard to which law states this, you will have to seek the appropriate legal representation for this as I am not a lawyer.
My reference to "land/immovable property" was an extension of "owning a company", just in case anyone asked, at no stage did I state that you were "talking about this".
Besides, I wasn't replying to your comments but to the originators. Oh please............is there anything you don't have an opinion on?! I thought this forum was to help people, not have you cut everyone down as soon as someone makes a comment, have you nothing better to do?

That's what I wanted to know. I would not dispute your right to an opinion, nor your right to express it - as you quite rightly point out, I have no compunction whatsoever in expressing mine - but I
do try to make it clear that it
is my opinion that I am expressing, and not a matter of fact, where that is the case...
As you did not quote any part of anyone's post, or directly address a poster, I mistakenly thought that you were responding, at least in part, to my post - yours coming immediately after mine. I apologise for my mistake!
However, I was genuinely interested to know whether it was, in fact, a matter that was governed by Law, which I thought that your post implied. So I'm not much further on!
I'm sorry that you think that I cut people down - I regard it as the cut-and-thrust of debate, and if someone makes a statement, I feel entitled to question it, if it doesn't seem compatible with what I
think ( ) that
I know, and I hope that I confine myself to challenging the content of the post, rather than attacking the poster...
So... PAX?
