Another query - does anyone know where I can get hold of Crocs shoes - whether real or false, I don't really care. Preferably in the west of Girne. Thanks in advance for any help.

Aydin Chemist in Alsancak sell a 'Croc' style shoe. They are a branded product. You will pay about £40 per pair

Thanks for all those answers. I actually need Crocs or similar to get in and out of the swimming pool and walk to and from the pool as the floor's hot in this weather and the steps are very bumpy and painful getting in and out. Don't want 6 or 7 pairs, I'm afraid, just one!

As stated, China Bazaar - 20TL

I don't think that there's anywhere on 'our' side though...

Thanks, Keith - you mean I might have to go over to the Dark Side Actually, I might invest in a good pair of shoes so I can wear them around the apartment without worrying about slipping on the marble. After six falls here, I'd like to feel a bit more stable (the falls, by the way, were mainly the dogs tripping me up!).

China Bazaar is on the east side of Girne .. About 2 miles from the Pia Bella roundabout on the left hand side ..
Think Keithcaley is referring to 'our' side as being west of Girne
Let me know where you can spend TL on the Dark side ..

I see that harita posted while I was still typing, but here goes -

Just to clarify, when I said "on our side", I did mean "West of Girne" - not "South of the Border - Down Mexico Way"

I think that you really need some 'Doc Martens' (Rubber soles, steel toecaps), then if you get accosted by skinheads, even if you're down on the floor, you can give a good account of yourself Image ImageImage
...the falls, by the way, were mainly the dogs tripping me up!
Yeah, Yeah, I always say that as well... or, to paraphrase Mandy Rice-Davies...

...well, I'll leave the rest to you...

Yes, I knew what you meant, Keith, just poking a bit of fun at the eastern side of Girne! I don't know about Doc Martens, my husband might start wondering why I'd bought them but I'm sure the three dogs would steer clear of me if they saw those clodhoppers!

Keith..... What's is wrong with having a skinhead? Are you suggesting that men with shaven heads are yobs or thugs? Isn't that just a tad stereotypical??????

There's more to being a skinhead than mere lack of hair - erm...allegedly

Keith - so if you developed alopecia and had no choice but to shave your hair off, so called "skinhead" style would you then be branded a typical yob, thug, racist, gang member etc??????

I think not!!! You cannot put people into categories this day & age....

What utter ROT!

At no point have I said that anyone with 'No Hair', or even 'Very Short Hair' is a skinhead - that was your interpretation, not mine.

If you bothered to read the information on the link that I posted, you would see that the term 'Skinhead' refers to a Youth sub-culture, which originated among working class youths in England in the 1960s, with many other defining characteristics besides their hairstyle.

And, just for your information, I can put whatever people I like, into whatever categories that I like, whenever I like. and as often as I like! - AND - I'll have you know that it has stood me in very good stead in the past!

So don't give me any of that namby -pamby, leftist, feminist crap!

(the 'smiley' at the end of the above text is there to indicate that the comments were intended humorously and were not, in fact, a personal attack) Image

Also, just to put you straight, the term that I would apply to someone with alopecia would be SLAPHEAD

I think the the mention of Doc Marten's is what triggered an association to skinheads (as part of their fashion of choice) - of course, there was also that one who regularly mixed up Doc Marten's with Doctor Scholl's - he never did quite fit in with the rest......

There are advantages to being a skinhead, like going to the barbers for a short back and shine, having rock and pop stars copy your hairstyle, saving a fortune on shampoo, and most important, developing a sense of humour !

Harita - The Great Expedition to the wilds of Catalkoy will take place tomorrow. We will brave the roadworks and the mad cries of the Yeti stalking around on the east of Kyrenia, and have our butterfly nets primed to scoop up crocs shoes flitting around at the China Bazaar. Watch this space for pics of Mo & Bryan's Great Adventure!

Dunnit - got 3 pairs of faux Crocs this morning and they were only 15TL each. Good job you mentioned dragons, Keith, a very kind alert. We got out the Hummer, fixed up the flame thrower and were ready when a Hungarian Horntail (escaped from Harry Potter) tried to ambush us east of Lemar. Very nasty but we were ready with the flame thrower and it retreated. Similarly with the 3 Komodo dragons which rushed us, but we beat them off. Heard the Yetis, but didn't see them. The locals on the East looked a bit shifty but basically very similar to us in the West. We got to China Bazaar too early so we each twisted the other's arm and headed off to the Shah supermarket (yes, I know it's Sah, just typing the way you say it), where I had a wonderful time flinging all sorts of goodies into the trolley while the Little Black Thundercloud accused me of being a magpie and grabbing everything that took my eye - as if! And yes, I did find some lovely little apple pies and lemon meringue pies. Yummy! Very little traffic, no traffic jams or hold-ups. Great outing, and here we are, safe and sound in the West again.

So a successful conclusion to my original inquiry. Thank you each and all of you who took time to offer your help, much appreciated.

Hi Mobry,

If you know the street in Nicosia, Dereboyu, then at the very end, (small roundabout) coming in from the Golden Tulip side, there is a Croc Shop on the Left.

Or if you plan a visit to the South, via Lockmaci,(where you walk over), there is a Guy sells Crocs, behind Debenhams, on the Parallele street. Paid about 27 Euros for the little 'un,

And eyebob94, your sense of humour has gone missing in action. Go back to bed, then climb out the other side and you'll find your sense of humour waiting for you (I hope). Pls do so or I'll set one of my dragons on you

Sadly not one of the Crocs at Lemar was in my size - everyone too small or too big.
