Cyprus today absolute drivle
I sporadically buy the cyprus today when i do i normally check out the he front page to see if it might contain something of interest.mthis week i just threw it in with the shopping . I skim read the front page article which involved a fracca in a bar . It was absolute garbage . The kind of nonsense gossip you might here in a bar . I dont know any of the parties involved i cant believe a newspaper has so little news to print that it prints this claptrap . Its an insult to its readers . Ihave thrown away this rag and will never buy it again .

In the UK its called The Silly Season i.e. nothing much happening, so just put something stupid on the front page. E.g when its really hot then loads of waffle about how to cope with two consecutive days of temps in the high 29. The C2D front page was about a storm in a VERY, VERY BORING teacup and hopefully by next weeks edition the whole business will have passed into history!!

On the other hand, I look forward to it every week, but you must read the content beyond page 1. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the alternative is the British press. Now that DOES get me angry

The cyprus today has an agenda it reports on things that the editor sympathises with as with the fracas and the totally biased view over the BRS debacle it's called censorship. Putting a totally biased view forward with no regard to the facts.

eastendjoker, isn't that what the press do all over the world? Eyecatching headline/titbit on the front page, the full story on the inside to encourage you to buy the paper. Come on. Seem to have set myself up as defender of Cyprus Today. So be it. Of course I don't agree with their opinion on all the things they publish, in the same way as I don't agree or even like some of the rubbish I read in my choice of the British press (which I will keep to myself) to avoid off topic comments

silverfir i havn't got a problem with the fact that an article is continued on page 4 , no its the fact that it is not just one article but three or four !

I can't remember the last time I actually read something in CT that was news everything in it happened like 5 or 6 days sometimes longer before it goes to print, it is not a news paper it more like historical confirmation of events that have passed.
I have made a concious desicion not to buy it anymore as it really is in my opinion a waste of time.

Why cannot the Cyprus 'Toady' and other English-speaking press in the TRNC ever do any meaningful 'investigative' journalism? Property scams by developers and land owners, estate agents failing to return deposits, advocates retaining clients costs awarded by courts, failure of the police to pursue parking offences, failure to wear helmets etc, the list is endless. The press here appear to be a record of the social scene, but maybe that's what the punters want.

CT is not "News", it is a simple historical listing of past events, predominantly those of a social nature. You would be better off picking up the free "Whats On" booklet for last month to find out what happened then! I fail to see why it is that people can find out what is going to happen in their local area next week or next month yet CT can only report on what has already happened. They would be better off just publishing a single sheet of URL's such as:
http://cyprus-mail.com/ - http://famagusta-gazette.com/today-in-w ... 839-69.htm - http://www.kpdailynews.com/index.php/ca ... LOCAL_NEWS - and of course - http://www.dailysabah.com/ and http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/ if you want to know what is happening just across the water. The rest of CT could then become pages and pages of UK sports results and even more pages of people having a grand old time out with their friends. At least there would then be of some use in CT apart from saving it up to use for fire lighters in the winter! Yes, you guessed it - not a fan of CT at all.

No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Reminds me of what my last husband used to say about the Cambrian News, our local paper in Wales (and Mikelapta will appreciate this). 'So little news that if a
Magpie falls out of its nest, it is front page news.'
Don't think they censored the news as much as happens here. The BRS is a case in point as has been mentioned earlier, but one can understand because of the delicate nature of the place, businesses want to continue, whether office, shop or media.

As I am sure Marion will appreciate, a reporter, I will not mention the name. once said to me "there is no such thing as investigative reporting in the TRNC, just reportage. We need our jobs and the powers that be do not appreciate being investigated"!!! Those of us who have lived here for quite a few years will understand what the reporter meant, can't we?

Sophie, you are spot on! However, the press HISS prevailing here is what perpetuates the corruption, nepotism, cronyism and inertia to protect the innocent and vulnerable.
