Why not direct your readers here to the Kibkom Forum/Calendar, they can get all they need from being a member of the Kibkom Forum - Regards Soner

I would suggest it is bad board etiquette to post links to another forum on an already established forum. Build your site and forum up the same way as others have without resorting to trying to poach members from other boards.
Just my humble opinion.

thanks for that response Ajay. I think you have hit the nail on the head. I understand where Soner is coming form
Restaurants can advertise on here and mention their wares as can all the other businesses, but they are not directing ot another web site. After all Kibkom has a calendar for events and also an opportunity to write about them here to reach anyone, anywhere. So, I think it is fine for any Esentepe events/restaurants/ etc, etc to write on here,k so that it can be read by all, but not to direct to the equivalent of another forum. why not put all your stuff on here1 That is what this forum is for, and it too is free.

I appreciate we don't all think the same, but as I say, I think this response is spot on. Hope you un derstand Meteor - I really do. Hope you understand the difference between using a forum and directing to another one.

Thank you Ajay. Maybe I am not getting my message over clearly enough. Manzara, I had tried to explain before ( http://www.kibkom.com/forum/en/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1736 ), I am not picking on you, I just do not like it when preople try to divert traffic that I have built up and paid for through advertising etc... (and still paying) to build the Kibkom forum up. Please do not take it personally.

I think that AJay is quite right here, and I do support Soner in protecting his asset (this Forum).

It is a fine line that you tread when you post a link to another Forum - sometimes it seems OK when the other Forum deals with matters that are not really covered by the Forum that you are posting on, at other times there may be information (News or new legislation, for instance) published on another Forum that it is better to provide a 'link' to, rather than copying and pasting an article.

There is a system of 'reciprocal links' where by prior agreement, both websites agree to include links to each others' websites, and this arrangement can benefit both parties, but it has to be agreed beforehand...

There have been occasions when I have posted links to information on other Forums, but I have always carefully considered whether it was in line with established 'Netiquette' to do so.

There is much debate on the subject of what constitutes good 'Netiquette'.

Indeed, you might well consider it to be bad 'Netiquette' for me to be saying this to you on the Forum rather than sending you a private message - if so, I apologise

Netiquette or not, I think it is good for we learners of cyberspace, to know what is O.K. and what is not. Often we do things in total innoc ence because new games call for new rules. For many people these fora are a new phenomena in their lives, and although extremely useful, it is easy to step over a line one does not see nor knows exists.
Maybe someone should write a book on netiquette. i have a 1930's book on Etiquette, which is now out of date, so i think it could be important to have an up to date one on Netiquette, so we all know what is O.K and what is not. so thanks Keith for the learning curve.

Indeed. i am not THAT old! I have some wonderful books from that era on cooking, etiquette, household management, and even knitting patterns, so if you want a balaclava for the winter, I could knit you one. Trouble is that I don't throw things out!

If you are interested, there are indeed books on Netiquette

Netiquette" by Virginia Shea (Educom Review, Sept./Oct. 1994, p. 58-62)
Which was in turn excerpted from Netiquette by Virginia Shea, Albion Books, San Francisco, 1994

Also several online 'Primers' and Guides, for instance: - Netiquette & BBC Netiquette Guide

- in fact you may even able to get a Degree in it : - Open University: Netiquette

I appreciate this is totally off thread, but thanks Keith. Maybe it was time I got edercated in cyberspace - would make a good change from divinity! Might go for it. In my spare time, but will certainly take a look on line.
talk about not living in the real world - io had no idea about this all .

Keith - Thank you so much! I was wondering what to do with myself now I have retired and now I know. A degree in Netiquette - ideal for me, I think, who barely knows one end of a computer from another

Totally agree.

Soner and moderators have a time consuming and often thankless task and deserve all the support for enabling a FIRST CLASS informative and entertaining forum.
