Rocking : sorry if teaching granny to suck eggs, but drink plenty of water and ayran and eat yoghurt. You can get powders from the chemist that replace losses through sweating , vomiting etc. Quick cool down run cold water or rub ice cubes on the big veins on inside of wrists and on forehead and back of neck. I am even rubbing ice cubes on dog's heads and spines and they seem to like it.

Be very careful with the us of salt additions. Having worke and lived in the Middle East for almost 30 years we were always advised by out Doctors never to use them as can cause more problems than prevent . I'm temps of 45-50 we were always advised to drink 6 litres of water per day. Don't recall many heat related issues amongs the work force back then

Bert.
Having served in North Africa with the British Army in the 60s our Regimental doctor issued salt tablets every day as the body looses so many chemicals water will not replace them. Every man had to drink 6 pints of water every day, the water was also treated with more chemicals, but this was to stop the Tripoli trots.

Crown of the head and back of the neck - keep the sun off them!!! Drink lots of fluid to combat the fluid loss, make up your own electrolyte its easy to do and will replace the salt and sugar loss. Wear loose clothing and try to keep out of the sun between 11:00 and 16:00. Sorry about this one - avoid alcohol like the plague - we all know its not good for you anyway but in high temperatures it is VERY not good for you, save up your beers for a more rainy day and enjoy them then. Remember that it is not about beating the heat, it is about managing it.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Waddo : do you have a recipe for making one's own electrolyte, please? And what about those of us avoiding salt because of blood pressure.?
And dont overdo the air con.- not just not to overload kibcom. Rapid changes of temperature can be dangerous, I am now getting a cold because of moving from hot outdoor to very cold shop, and I gather for those with things like asthma it can be particularly dangerous. When I was in Cyprus in the 60s the MO said most of his patients were suffering from complaints due to coming in from the heat, taking of their clothes and lying down in the draft of air con or even (and more likely those days) a fan.

Cilla had heatstroke symptoms, stood up from her sunbed and collapsed of the heat hitting her head and thus causing a stroke which resulted in her death. RIP Cilla

After her fall it is believed Cilla laid in the sun for some 5 hours and if discovered sooner her life may have been saved. So sad for her family.

Quite a number of people will probably assume that your remark re CB was a result of you suffering from from the heat, alcohol or a combination of the two. Regardless I consider you out of order.

Maybe the Mods don't manage to read every message, so must give them benefit of the doubt. Clearly nothing forthcoming from TRNCVaughan.

Please note that the offensive posting by a Kibkom member has been deleted. The member knows who they are and I would ask that they abide by the forum rules. The post that was made was extremely offensive and any further re-occurence will result in a ban.
The post was reported and as soon as it was seen action was taken.
There were a few other posts on the forum that quoted the offensive posting with members very unhappy, I have also deleted these posts as well.
Moderators are not permanently on line but as a reminder, if anyone feels a posting is outside of the forum rules, they can report as offensive or pm/email a moderator who will then investigate further.
Many thanks to those who highlighted this particular post.

What is offensive to some people isn't to others. Why is it if someone makes light of a situation The You Can't Say That and easily offended brigade appear. It's such a shame people are being prevented from such light hearted comments.
I didn't find it remotely offensive.
Before long no one will be able to say anything at all in case it offends.

Offensive or not to you, the remark in question was uncalled for and in bad taste.Lottidotti wrote:What is offensive to some people isn't to others. Why is it if someone makes light of a situation The You Can't Say That and easily offended brigade appear. That's your opinion which I don't agree with.but preventing someone from making such a comment is a slippery slope.
If people find such a comment extremely offensive how do they manage their lives, for instance reading the newspaper, watching TV,
walking down the road, eating out ,all of which will be offensive at some point to some people.

The forum rules cleafly state offensive posts are not allowed.
The original posting was reported as offensive and after reading the post I also agreed that it was offensive. Other Kibkom members also posted and said they found the original posting in very bad taste or offensive. In my opinion it was not making light of the situation. Posts were then deleted.
Please respect the decision
Many Thanks

Re: Cilla Black heatsroke
Posh, you have made the decision that's fine, doesn't mean I have to agree with it.
If every time someone emails you to say they think something is offensive do you delete the post ,if not why not.
If you don't delete it then it obviously isn't offensive to you so the post stays even though people have complained.
It's all subjective.
It shouldn't be that if someone disagrees with a post that the person writing it is castigated and threatened to be banned. What should happen is that people are allowed to reply and let their feelings be known. If people don't want to take part that is fine if they do that's fine also.
But this constant ' I Find That Offensive' attitude is preventing people from saying what they think.
If something is said that people don't agree with challenge it,have a debate ask the poster why he/she said it.
To be quite honest Cilla being a true scouser would be the first to laugh at what the poster wrote.

Re: Cilla Black heatsroke
I was surprised by Uncle Vaughany's comment but didn't find it malicious in any way - just in poor taste. I don't think it should have been deleted. There are always sick jokes doing the rounds when someone famous dies. This wasn't one of them.
I do find it very sad, however, that Cilla didn't enjoy a long and healthy retirement. I suspect that she wasn't the happiest of people once out of the public eye.

Re: Cilla Black heatsroke
Moderators have to make a decision based on the information received from other members plus also looking at the posting and the thread in general.
In this instance given the number of people who either posted about or reported the original post it was clear that many found it in either very bad taste or offensive. Whether I found the posting offensive or not is immaterial. It clearly was a concern to many and hence as a moderator it had to be investigated. In this instance I also found the posting uncalled for. Post was then deleted.
As per the forum rules, the moderators decision is final and no further explanation is necessary. The forum rules also ask that forum members please respect the decision even if you may not agree with it.
Time now to get this thread back on track.

Re: Cilla Black heatsroke
Posh, this thread has had over 1400 views most of whom will not have a clue as to what the post was about and for them to judge accordingly.
It was deleted from what I remember around post 8.
A sign that the delete button had not been pressed for a while.
You do not need to keep referring me to the rules, unless of course I have broken any of those rules.
The forum rules ask that members respect the decision,it's not obligatory.
I seem to remember having a similar discussion with you not so long back about premature delete button.
Let these things run and either people will take part or they won't,if no one takes part because they don't like what's being said then the topic will die.

I fully support PoshinDevons actions. The post was in poor taste and may have possibly been the result of one too many. Anyway, we should all respect that loved ones are left behind and should take into consideration their feelings, even though they may not be members it is possible that they can stumble across this forum much later in the future.
Can we now please just keep to the topic.
