Here in Dipkarpaz there seems to be very little comment re the present talks. Admittedly my Turkish is not great but all the same......
life is just going on as usual. No comments on FB pages. Nothing from the Belediye. Well nothing is actually happening and we don't expect much change in the near future, but there seems to be more worries about sheep, crops etc than politics. Almost all people here are mainland Turks and Kurds. Any English speaking people from mainland Turkey care to enlighten me what they think??

Dippersgirl, why are you so concerned about what Mainland Turks think about the talks. They will just go with the flow the same as any other nationality that has made their home in TRNC or working.

I would think there may be "slight" cause for concern among the Mainland Turkish if the Greeks push on with their demands that all Turkish Settlers be returned to Turkey! Go with the flow - not quite as easy for the Turkish Settler and if the Greeks also said all EU Settlers be returned to their country of origin maybe there would be just a little more discussion about it here!

I understand your concern about your neighbors and friends Dippersgirl but from the news we get I do not think that there will be anything in the settlement that includes returning the Turkish Settlers to Turkey. At least I hope not or you will be living in a ghost town!!!

The Greek Cypriots better be prepared for all London based GC's to be ousted back to Cyprus on that basis - EU rules will prevail with regards freedom of movement, work and domicile - if there's one thing EU membership enshrines - it's that...

But are not all the London based GC's already EU citizens - after all they were born (some of them) in a country that is in the EU now and those that were born in London may think of themselves as GC's but in effect they are British, being born in the UK.

In any case, if you really expect the gutless guarantor power of the UK to do anything that would stop them getting elected again - thing again, they never have in the past and the future is already written.

Whilst driving into Lefcosia this AM I had a thought - strange that - about this compensation business. As both Greece and the UK are two parts of the Guarantor Powers and neither of them did a damn thing to either stop the problems happening in Cyprus pre or post 74, yet Turkey did and continues to try to assist - could not those of both TC and GC who have lost their "Homelands" not be able to sue both Governments for failing in their "Duty of Care"?

Just love these modern phrases that people throw about in the hopes of getting money out of others - lol.

Dalartokat, waddo is right, of course I am concerned what happens to my neighbours, and friends( aren't you?? ), even if they don't seem to worry so much and say 'inshallah' and are even willing to go back. We chose this place as we liked this area and we didn't want to live in 'Cyprus UK'

It would change the whole atmosphere of this village and the very worst thing would be if we just had a lot of empty Greek holiday houses.

Dippersgirl. Your views of a Mainland Turk are probably different to mine. Whilst I would sympathise with you if you lost your neighbours and friends, yours seems to be of a concern on how your village will become without them and what you will be left with.

Mainland Turks are under no illusion of how they are viewed by GC and TC. They live with it everyday, be it remarks about their looks, their behaviour, if they have any connections to Hatay etc. Most of them came to NC because they could get work and earn more money, but to them it's daily survival, hence my saying they will go with the flow because this is the sort of people they are.

Who or what is a settler these days in NC?

TC's yearn for normality and the GC's just won't let go of the settler issue and yet they both want to be part of modern Europe.

The issue of using settlers as the only reason for a solution is not about building bridges but a continuation of a divide.

That's my crystal ball opinion.

Darlartokat, Dippersgirls concerns for her village and its people are commendable, why are you concerned, your attitude toward changes is different, she deserves respect for her comments, not a lecture.

Jacob it was explained in my posting at the beginning and also I said at the end my opinion. Accept other peoples opinions please. It was not intended as a lecture it's my view.
