Opticians - Highly Recommended

Today I walked across the crossing point into Ledra St, had a Sausage and Egg MacMuffin for breakfast then walked on to here:
http://www.aaoptical.com/en
There I had an eye test (free) and arranged with this company to re-glaze my spectacle frames with new lenses. I wanted to do this as my frames are new and of high quality,
My new lenses, as supplied by A&A Optical are of high quality, they also have anti glare and they are rapid darkening lenses as well. The cost for these lenses is 355 Euros, which at today's exchange rate is £250.71 or 1,086.71TL.
The service I received today is second to none, I have worn spectacles now for over 64 years and based on my extensive experience I can not praise this company and its staff highly enough. I have at last found an optician that not only carries out the eye test but who also fits your spectacles properly as well. Easy to find (Google maps takes you straight there), no more than 10 mins from the crossing point (more if you stop for breakfast), excellent English and super service.
What more can I say?

Waddo, I couldn't agree with you more. The opticians here are rubbish if you have more than basic requirements, I know, I know, there are people that will come on here praising at least two Opticians to the highest heavens, but I'll continue to bang on about the fact they cannot deal with people who have complicated prescriptions. One of them even recommended me to go down South!!!

Groucho, I won't give you the name of the optician in the North - everyone is allowed to have a bad day sometimes and I have always found him/her to be very good in the past. It is just that this time I wanted to go to a "One stop shop" a place that not only tested but prescribed, produced and fitted so I am only dealing with one person. It would be most unfair of me to name, names and I am a fair person. Sorry if you disagree but it is not in me to tar a reputation due to one mistake - otherwise I would never buy a Ford again - lol.

Did they make them for you the same day or do you have to go back to collect them?

Would it not have been better not to mention the 'mistake' in the north - as now we can't trust any of them....

Groucho,
Oh ye of little faith. If you are speaking just for yourself then never go to one in the North again.

kedikat2903,
I am so used to waiting between 10 and 14 days (even in the UK) for my new lenses to be ready that I never asked that question. However, he did tell me they would take about 3 days and he will phone me when they are ready anyway. I would guess that for a less complex prescription than my own that waiting period would be much shorter - best thing to do is email him and ask.

Hi did you have to make an appointment for the eye test, if so which of the 3 stores listed on the website is the one in Ledra Street please.

Ozankoy, Waddo didn't say it was in Ledra Street, he says he walked UP Ledra street to get to it. I'm sure he will be more explicit if you ask him. I'm certainly going to email the company in question , as I have absolutely no faith in the people this side because of complications in my prescription which they cannot cope with.

Ozankoys, The store you want is the one at 29 Homer Avenue, Nicosia. It is not in Ledra Street!! Like a lot of places it also does not show on Google Maps but I have created a route in Google Maps so you can find it dead easy. The shop is only a maximum of 5 mins walking from the end of Ledra St - go through the bus station and cross the main road, once across turn right and walk past the first Optician you come to, keep going until you get to a major road junction - you can't miss this as cars are coming towards you from about 4 separate points! When you are level with the major junction cross over the road immediatley on your left, turn to your right and walk 50 mtrs and the shop is there on your left on the corner. The sign is on the corner of the building just keep your eyes open, don't rush along and enjoy a short but quite pleasant walk. If you want the map send me your email address.
I did not make an appointment for the eye test but I had discussed my problem and requirements with the owner via email previous to my first visit. The email address is on the web site but if you can't find it :
info@aaoptical.com will put you in contact with the owner. Excellent written and spoken English and easy to deal with. Anything else I can help you with please email me @
rbqpsk@gmail.com

Waddo, is there any way you could post the map on this forum? To save yourself from being inundated with requests. Although your directions should be easy to follow, even if, like us, folks have never been anywhere other than Larnaca in the South. Thanks for your post, should help lots of us.

29 Homer Avenue should be close to the 'pin' in this map

then again if this is wrong do not blame me

I have been trying most of the afternoon to remake the map I had made for myself - have created dozens of maps but none of them are correct and I have only managed to save two of them - then deleted them because they were rubbish - I know I can share a map and then just post the HTTP link on here but still have not got the map making process sorted out yet. Give me time, it has become a challenge.
Erol, close but no cigar!! If you look at where your pin is - A&A Optical is actually on the corner of the junction between Kosti Palama and Diagorou. I can drop pins in anywhere but producing a map in the "Ever so simple My Maps" is not as easy, as I have found. Thanks.

Try this - if I post it and it don't work then I will delete and try again.
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Ledra ... !5i2?hl=en
This works!!!!! Not the best way to do it but at least you can see the directions now - follow the dots!!!!!!!!! It will take you from the crossing point to outside the door of A&A Optical.
Time for a beer now - bye.

Hi thanks very much guys for your sterling efforts in producing the map. Now I just have to persuade him to go get his eyes tested!

Remember it was MY choice to go to a "One stop shop", that is what I wanted. Yes it was brought about by a single mistake from an optician in the North but it was still my choice.
If I had not give a full reason and history of why I personally recommend A&A Opticals in the RoC I would only have had many questions as to why I used that place instead of many others in the TRNC - it is not a win, win situation on a forum.
I've got no problem with you going to A&A and recommending them - it's got nothing to do with faith either - it's the unspecific explanation of a problem that I don't think is helpful to those who will now wonder if their optician is the one you had a problem with and who to go to because you won't say. If you had not mentioned why you went to the south - other than for the excellent service - I doubt very much if anyone would have questioned it.
I have never needed the services of an optician...

I had totally the opposite experience had eye test here, went to the South for the glasses, "oh, you had your eyes tested in the North I need to re-test your eyes" well what a surprise he says they were wrong. So I had glasses made to his prescription on the South, what a mistake, totally wrong!!! Had re-tested in the North glasses lenses made, great.

Groucho, that is probably "I have never needed the services of an optician" why you are the only one who has questioned it. How specific would you like me to be? I give up with this continued moan about "Maybe" "Somebody" "Might" worry that they have the same optician - tell you what, I have cured the problem for you. Re-read my first post!

laptatony, I really think it depends on the problems you have with your eyes, I have suffered a similar fate in the UK between Specsavers and Boots, so can understand it. However, I must add that my eyesight is poor and the prescription is difficult for any optician. I think my experience here is very much a "one off" but at a cost of over 1300TL for lenses I can not afford to make mistakes like this twice. Time will tell if I have made the correct decision when I receive my new lenses.
