Water pump pressure switch?
Hi
Anyone know where I can buy just the switch? Pump runs fine and gives good water pressure but has stopped turning off. Alternatively any good plumbers about, Bellapais/Girne area.
Thanks
Andy

Paralik Karakum/Catalkoy do a very good make with a pressure gauge on the side- 65tl. Just had one fitted and appears it is less susceptible to the on off on off symptom...AndyT wrote:Hi

If the switch is not reaching the correct pressure the pump will never stop running. If a isolation valve has been fitted to the discharge side of the pump, closing this should satisfy the switch and stop the pump. This simple test will answer the question " is the continuous running a faulty switch or a leak in the system"

I had assumed that isolation of the pump has been done to ensure that the pressure control unit had proven faulty... if not thornaby's advice is sound - often problems are further down the chain - leaking toilets, ballcock and non-return valve being favourite after the pressure control unit.thornaby wrote:If the switch is not reaching the correct pressure the pump will never stop running. We had a washing machine where the cold water inlet control valve was allowing water to slowly seep into the machine even when it was supposedly off - I ordered a new valve from the UK and fitted it - 10 minute job and hey-presto, that part of the problem was sorted.
The pressure contol units ocntain a sort of gland that 'goes home' after a while and no amount of fiddling with toilets, ballcocks and non-return valves will cure that and replacement is the only choice. The saving in electricity will soon pay for the new unit.

Re: Water pump pressure switch?
The old-fashioned ball cocks are the best equipment for Cyprus, unfortunately the modern valves that are now so common work on a differential pressure system
.a small rubber diaphragm with a tiny bleed hole in it.
Crap in the water and calcium deposits create the problems of small water leakage resulting in the pump running continuous or cutting in and out repeatedly,
The other big problem is the flush valve itself. The modern ones depend on a perfect water tight seal, the traditional syphon valve does not.
Old technology is quite often the Best.

Also check the pressure in the tank. 2 lbs below the cut in of your pressure switch, and that the switch adjuster nuts have not come loose especially in hot weather

Re: Water pump pressure switch?
Thanks for the advice, tried the shut off valves and pump keeps running. Opened the front panel on the controller and there is rust inside so I'll swap it. Hopefully connection are the same. Got the one recommended from Paralik for 60TL.

Connections should he the same. They are normally clearly marked up anyway
Take a photo of the connections before hand if in any doubt. Don't forget to have your thread tape handy.

All done and fitted and working . Might get a plumber up to redo the top connection as its not great. Rusty metal extension instead of fitting correct length pipe. But at least it's working now and shutting off properly. And no more moans from the wife about low water pressure in the shower lol
