Large Green Bins

We have 2 large green bins on our road which services in the region of 30 or so households.
The bin men broke one of these bins last time they emptied it and it now holds very little rubbish so off I trot to Girne Belediye, with photo's of the damaged bin and of the rubbish now strewn all over the place, to ask if they could arrange a replacement only to be told that I have to pay 600TL for a new one!
So I asked who paid for all the ones up and down all the roads in Girne with Girne Belediyesi stamped on the outside, surely Girne Belediye paid for them? Apparently not the Belediye
I am finding this very very difficult to believe
Has anyone else found themselves in a similar situation and what did you do or where did you go etc etc?
Many thanks

We had to buy our green bin 12 years ago, which cost us £300 !!!! If ours got broken by the bin men I certainly would not be very happy if they charged us for another one!!! It's unbelievable. What a rip off!!!! Also, one bin is surely not nearly big enough for 30 households!!!! Ours is just for our block of 5 apartments, and, does get pretty full. So God knows how yours could hold so much stuff !!!!

In Esentepe we have to purchase our own bins and over the years a number of ours and our neighbiurs have disappeared shortly after being emptied. As a result, we keep the bin on our drive, line it with a bin liner and when full take the bin bag straight to the dump which is just up the road from us. Don't have to guess when they are going to get emptied any longer.

Harrythecod, yes I am in Edremit on the road behind the Hideaway Hotel.
We have had to purchase our bins in the past (approx 130/150TL)for our to be on our personal property but these bins are on a public road where every man and his dog throws rubbish into it.
My question is does the Belediye not provide these huge bins on public roads?
I can't honestly see that an individual has purchased each and every large green bin that you can see in the whole of the TRNC on a public road.

Ailsa,
The 2 bins that were there were never enough and I was continuously picking up rubbish from around them but now we are down to 1 and half bins it is just a complete mess.

Take pictures, post them on the forums, send them to the local press (both TRNC and British) and Belidyes, Mayor of Girne, Tourist Office - ie, make a nuisance of the problem. We had a similar problem when we lived in a village in Spain and using the above approach, less than 3 days later, it was all cleared up and proper bins provided, which were emptied twice weekly.

Harrythecod,
Firstly I actually do not know where the Muhtar is and secondly I cannot get there until Monday at the earliest. (Please give me directions and also do you know his/her name?)
If you don't mind going to see him and let me know how you get on, if nothing happens I will most definitely pay him/her a visit on Monday with my photos that I took yesterday.
tomsteel - thanks we have the pictures already, I took them to the Girne Belediye this morning to no avail, I will be chasing all the above should we fail to get the Muhtar to do anything.

I'd put the pictures on their Facebook page.
I've done this a few times with different compnies, including one in South Nicosia, never failed yet to get a positive response.
