Multimax Price Hike

Just about to renew my Multimax Package and noticed that the Platinum package has jumped up 18% in cost to 1299 tl.
I wonder if the buffering will drop 18%, if so I'll be happy to pay it.
A bit of competition wouldn't go amiss.

I suppose it depends how you look at it.Twelve months ago Sept 2014 the exchange rate was about 3.60 TL to the pound,so if you renewed last September when Multimax were charging I think 1100TL it would have cost about £ 305.00.
Today the rate is about 4.64 TL To the pound.£1299 TL now equals about £277.00.So as you can see you are actually better off by about £28.00.
However if you are paid in TL or receive a pension in TL then that's a different ball game.

The exchange rate has nothing to do with it.
Do they not get there "Internet Feed" from Turkey ?
I think Turkey use the Lira, don't they !!! ????

I would think that their equipment comes from all over the world so the fall in the TL would have a serious impact. They are constantly upgrading in order to be able to provide a good service. Wages have gone up as well.

Jilvehdist,I am just pointing out that someone renewing now compared to twelve months ago is about £ 28.00 better off.
So for me the exchange rate does matter and is relevant because I would be better off by that amount.
If you want to know Multimax costings I suggest you ask them.I think you will find that Internet type services and particularly the infrastructure cost to improve the system will be costed in either Euros or Dollars.
I don't work for Multimax but £ 23.00 per month (approx) for the service and speeds they provide are very good.
There is competition out there but from what I can see is nowhere near as good.

The Exchange rate has everything to do with it.
We pay Turk Telekom and salaries in TL. Everything else (equipment purchase, other supplies etc) is more or less pegged to either USD or GBP.
Turk Telekom constitutes to ONLY 10% of our monthly expenses.
As for salaries, everyone of our employees also has foreign currency expenses of their own, so from this month on, their salaries will need to be reevaluated and readjusted, just like our Internet prices, so the fact that they receive TL means little.
GBP and USD both increased by approx 25% since Jan 2015. This has had a huge impact on our profitability (some people may think we are operating in excess of 100% profit margin but we are not) and thus affecting our strength and safe operations.
A company cannot be expected to lose more than 20% of its revenues and keep normal operations. It either means you were getting ripped off in the first place, or you pay for it some other way (company lays off some employees, reduce support hours, stop some services to save money etc etc).
We have decided that 17.5% increase in our prices is the best approach. Multimax standing as a a strong company is in the best interest of us and our customers as well, we believe.
K.

I hope that's put it to bed - a very well reasoned and detailed explanation of why we can't or shouldn't expect the price of our very good service to sit still while the exchange rates damage the business....

Thank-you Kemal, you have explained what I already suspected. Many imported goods are going up in price also.
I have always thought your service fair and well priced, when I initially bought in I received approaching a 10 fold increase in speed for similar cost and you service and offerings have only improved.
I feel MM offers the best value and best service on the island, keep up the good work.

Thank you kbasat for the good explanation. We are customers of multimax, have tried the competition and they did Net (sic) come close in terms of service or speed. Yes of course the rates have a huge impact but for anyone who gets pensions or pay in sterling, I agree, in real terms the cost to us is lower and I am more than happy to pay for quality.

Multimax have done well to keep prices down for as long as they have considering the exchange rate. Still good value for money.

I went in and paid my 999tl this afternoon for the next year. I can't for the life of me understand why people winge so much. By receiving MM it allows me to have Skype, BBC Iplayer, both TV and Radio (which I love most of all) NTV with all their hundreds of channels, Filmon if I wanted it etc, etc, etc, the list is endless. With today exchange rate I think 999tl a snip at the price. Thanks MM, I don't know what we'd do without you.

MM employees shop in the same shops as we do,so do we get a raise everytime there is a currency problem, come on think about it,sorry but we deal in TL both in Turkey and here do we really need MORE price increases. The Supermarkets are bare because the imported goods cost more and they deal in the £ and $ so when did MM start working in the currency exchange market, sorry but just another excuse for a price hike.

Given that imported "things" are generally more expensive in the North than in the South, you who moan at a good service putting up its prices to deal with inflation, cost of living and cost of provision, maybe you should consider moving providers and contact those "Cheap" Internet providers in the South. Have a look at this and then go in search of the monthly fees for the same service you are receiving, maybe you will stop trying to make up excuses for why your service has now cost you a trifle more?
http://www.cyprusbroadband.net/
Of course if you are still not happy you can always use your land line and I can sell you a good solid old modem that works on dial up, which if you don't understand why things are starting to cost more, is exactly what you should be using.

Think you missed a trick here Multimax. Had you increased by 50% some here would have paid it. I feel a little nauseous at some of these comments and the comparisons /conversions to sterling. Just my humble opinion you understand.

Silverfir I really don't understand why comments about the exchange rate make you nauseous.....maybe you need a sick bucket handy...just my even more humble opinion of course...I really wish people would stop taking a pop at multimax....all that do, go off and find a better provider and then let us all know. The gauntlet has been thrown down....off you go, moaners.

Thank you Multumax for a great service. What other provider texts you when there is a problem, with an explanation and a projected time frame for improvement? Or provides a vpn with the internet connection? Yes, I do not like price hikes, and I wish I had renewed a couple of weeks go when I went into the office to enquire how much I would be to renew at the end of this month - was quoted the old price. But hey-ho, I appreciate the service and thanks to the person who did the sums and put out the cost in my 'real terms' ie sterling price comparison, seeing my pension is paid in sterling!

Low blow from a competitor?
Of course it is a low blow from a competitor. It is also nonsense. We import equipment continuously. The equipment used when a new customer signs up is 'free' to the customer in the sense that there is no installation charge, the cost of labour and the equipment is built into the service charge. That equipment may be 'old' (reused from a customer that has stopped service from us) or it may be new. Are you seriously suggesting that we charge each customer a different price for a given service based on what we actually paid for the equipment used for that specific install ? The idea is madness, what we do is average out the cost over all our customers. What is more it is not just equipment that has to be paid for on an ongoing basis in non TL currencies, there are also monthly costs for services we buy in non TL currency, like those used to provide the 'free' VPN services and more besides. The only equipment we buy at one non TL price and sell on to customers directly at a TL price are routers, which we have increased the price of from 220TL to 240TL a 9% increase vs the approx 25% effective increase in price to us. I think we have re stocked routers at least three times this year, with the latest batch costing us in real terms around 25% more than the first batch.
Not only is Multimax, in my personal opinion and as an employee of the company, the best provider in north Cyprus, in terms of speeds delivered and customer support, it is also the most transparent and honest in terms of its interactions with its customers. What CEO of any other internet provider here in Cyprus would ever come on a forum like this and engage directly with the people here, customers and non customers alike, in the way that Kemal does ?

DS Expat TV wrote:mmax how often do you import your equipment, Are you implementing price increases on equipment bought at lower pound rate.??
What a silly, nonsensical and illogical question.
Not only the fact that we do not sell any equipment, we also do not micromanage our costs. Every customer gets a free customer premises equipment to use for the duration of the service, which comes with Multimax warranty and replaced if anything ever happens to it. Some installations cost us more some less, some customers are in a more suitable location for our services, some are not etc etc. What we do is to average out our costs, which equipment purchase costs are only one part of it, and come up with a sale price which applies to everybody. Maybe you should read more about industry standards before asking this sort of qustions.
Also, the question doesnt even make any sense from a purely business perspective. Imagine a company that has purchased 100 equipment in GBP and it was 4TL to gbp at the same time and he paid 100GBP for them or 400TL. He normally puts up a profit of 10% and sells them at 4.4TL each, or 440TL total. Imagine the day they arrived in his shop, the GBP rate jumped to 4.6TL to GBP. How can you expect that company to still say 'I purchased these equipement at a lower GBP rate so I must still sell them at 4.4TL a piece'. If he does, the money he will make not only will make him no money, but also he wont have enough money to buy another 100 equipment and he has to be out of pocket.
Welcome to Business 101...
Kemal

Recommend anyone with a landline, sign up with SunnyCyprus, 279tll for the year, and phone bill averages out at 28tl per month, and that`s with the internet on 12-15 hours per day, also download speed is very fast.
Re: Multimax Price Hike
Posted: Sun 13 Sep 2015 11:45 am

Well unless it has all changed, the max download you will get from your landline is 3Mb, that is from the Telecom office not the ISP provider. But if you are happy with that and also happy that if your landline faults out for whatever reason - mine laid in the road for 3 months till they got around to finding my address and fixing it - remember that you will still pay your 28TL a month for the service you will not get! You also have to give 1 months notice to cease the service if you decide it fails to meet your requirements. Had it for two years - minus three months when I had to keep stepping over the broken wire outside my door - and sometimes it was good but most times it was poor to fair.
I think it all depends on how much use you have for the Internet and what you use it for - I am a fairly heavy user and Multimax meets all my requirements in a way that no other provider in the North has ever done!

I am a happy MM user and have been so since the company set up here. It would appear there is some sort of concerted effort to discredit the firm given the number and frequency of posts demeaning or criticizing the service offered. As others, with far greater knowledge and wisdom have stated previously, if you can find a better provider, please feel free to move - but, please, stop the castigating of a reputable company. If you have a concern, contact MM direct, not via a public forum.

And if yo haven`t learnt Turkish there is normally someone that speaks English to help you.
