You and the Purchaser with ID & documentation (yours, his, and the car's !) go along to a Muhtar, who fills out a form, certifying that person A is selling the vehicle to person B.
Then off to Lefkoşa to the vehicle licensing office, still with all paperwork & I.D.'s - pay your money and the job's a good 'un
There used to be a little old lady who sat outside, and if you crossed her palm with silver, she would go in and do it for you - there are about 4 or 5 different queues, and if you don't know which one you want, you'll be stumped! You can get away with just one of you at the Lefkoşa office, provided that you have the vehicle documents, & copies of both sets of I.D., plus the Muhtar's letter.
It is a legal requirement that you get the name changed on the log book, and if it isn't done, you could be held liable for any speeding fines / offences committed, so it's in your interest to make sure that it is actually completed.

Before buying a car from ANYONE (unless its brand new of course) take the registration number to Girne police and they will check if there is any outstanding fines - for whatever. Don't get caught as a friend of mine did a couple of years back. Can't remember exactly but I think she had to pay for 4 speeding fines. Try as she might she couldn't get out of it. "I didn't own the car then" was no excuse as far as police were concerned. They may be a bit more lenient now though!!

Make sure you go to the licence / registration centre with the buyers as you are liable for any fines until the transfer is registered.

If you go to the girls in the driving school - first on the left in the police station road in Girne - they will do it all for you for a small charge.

I try and do things myself, I know that it's easier to pay someone else to do it for you, but in this country there is a sense of satisfaction in doing stuff yourself!!
