First is Ron Springett who helped Sheffield Wednesday to become a decent team in the 60s got to be up there with the best English keepers of all time.
And the other hero of mine was Brian Close the bravest cricketer ever to wear the England kit, and also a Yorkshire man through and through. R.I.P Legends both, To me anyway.

topten: Sounds as if you come from my neck of the woods. My father's family hailed from Sheffield and I lived near Rotherham from 6 years.
I am not a football fan, but mention of Brian Close brought back memories of the heroes and characters of Yorkshire cricket in my youth - Hutton, Illingworth and never to forget Freddy Trueman.
Don't make 'em like that anymore!

That's right I was born in Sheffield and supported the Wednesday from the end of Harry Cattericks reign, also watched Yorkshire C.C at Bramall Lane, happy days.
