Charity man knocking on doors

I hope I'm being over cautious here but just had a guy at my gate collecting for disabled children from lefkosa......I said no as we already donate to charities he asked me if I had dogs, he was very persistent that I go to the gate.....I didn't and asked him to leave...I did watch him as my mother lives up the road and noted that he only knocked on the doors with a car in the drive.....
That could be that he assumed people were out? However, Last year this happened up our street and the next day our neighbour found intruder in her bedroom........

Jumping the gun here probably and not wanting to frighten people but I did take a note of the registration....when he realised I was watching him he left pretty quick, he probably thinks I'm a freak!!

I live by Olive Oil Factory in Karsiyaka.........the gentleman was very friendly, just a bit pushy and apologies if this is a legitimate charity collection.........

I think you are right to be wary - I certainly would.

If he is legitimate he will have a photo identity card from the society that he is collecting for. You would also have to fill in your name/address and you would receive an official receipt. No matter how friendly your guy was if he had nothing with him but a smile and some patter then he is not legit! There is a young guy (has a bad stutter but works hard to get through it) who comes round about every six months collecting for the disabled in this area - the funds go across the whole of Girne - and he has all the right bits with him and still insists on leaving a simple colouring book for whatever donation you give. Catalkoy area!

You are right Waddo, it is the same young man. He has the photo ID and gives a receipt and a small colouring book as a thank you and he was in Karsiyaka recently.

waddo - the guy you described visited me in Karsiyaka a few days ago as he has done many times. I always give him something and I always get a receipt and a colouring book. He is completely legit.

Know anyone who wants the colouring books?

Same lovely guy that comes to us. I probably give him more than enough but I do admire his determination to visit all the houses in our area, despite the heat. He always refuses offer to sit in the shade and have a cold drink. He never comes passed the dogs but calls out from the gate. I sign a receipt, get a colouring book which goes to a local child. He's a lovely young man and if he visits you then he's just fine/

Not the same guy then, this one was certainly confident but he did have a badge/identity card around his neck and what looked like a book of raffle tickets but I didn't get close enough to read the badge....certainly nothing like colouring books...that said he still may be ok, poor man.........
