Probably was not paying any tax on his earnings as singer in Cyprus and Spain and elsewhere either I might hazard to guess. I do not know - bloody foreigners (brit in this case) come over here (Cyprus in this case) and cheat the system (at home and probably here as well). Send em all home I say. Just in case it is not clear - that is supposed to be irony and a joke, kind of. I do not really believe that every migrant FROM the UK, to here, should be judged on the basis of the behaviour of this one particular migrant, any more than I believe migrants TO the UK should all be judged on the basis of the behaviour of a tiny minority of such migrants.

Now this is something I thought would never happen Erol using the Mail, to " jokingly" have a go at Migrant bashers. But what he fails to add is that the majority of Migrants to Cyprus have to prove that they can support themselves financially. And also have to pay yearly to be legal, while the old carrot and stick of permanent citizenship is dangled frequently. And to be honest if the expats left Cyprus the Country would return to the Donkey powered days because most of its income is "I guess" generated through its bars and restaurants and holiday trade created mostly by friends and family visits.

There are a few people here should be reported for impersonating entertainment as a whole Hat on.

As you say Erol it's shocking when someone cheats the system and obtains gain by fraud like that fortunately it's only the Brits doing it here as the locals are so honest and would not dream of cheating the government or the state. Every thing here honest and above board and honest.

Jazzdolly....Is this not more about the fact the guy was claiming DLA worth £32,000 and was committing fraud because he didn't quite tell the truth on his original claim, working in Cyprus and Spain, rather than whether "entertainment has been done to death"
Turn it around and if a migrant came to the UK doing the same there would be uproar and people would give a toss!

As I am sure you would be the first to acknowledge the significant economic contribution migrants to the UK have made and continue to make there ?

Just like it is good to know that it is only 'foreigners' that cheat the system in the UK as the UK locals are so honest and would not dream of cheating the government or the state ?

I took Erols post in the spirit it was made....tongue in cheek.
I happen to agree with the extended visa............aka temp residency checks as some incorrectly call it. Makes sense to me that those who come to stay in the TRNC must abide by the laws in place....proving an income is good so no burden on the state.....health checks are good........so no burden on the state. The TRNC is a small, new state and struggling to be recognised. What they dont need is to be having to somehow support those who come over and have no financial back up of their own. We must remember that these checks are for all foreigners not just British and if thats the rules then they should be complied with.
UK should do more of the same.
I do agree tho that the TRNC must try to get the balance right as it is in my opinion the foreigners who bring in a large amount of revenue in.

All well and good PiD. However, there will be a whole new ball game in the event of Cyprus reunification and the TRNC entering the EU. Then there has to be compliance with EU law on rights to work, citizenship, health care, equal rights with Cypriots et al. The whole pack of cards could be thrown into chaos. Can you imagine if all expat here joined an expat-led political party? What a force that would provide.

Yes Erol I do agree that some migrants do work and pay their way, but how many don't? how many are landing in the UK with only their clothes on their backs. And please don't cry the asylum reason. How many are running are round illegally, then tell me how many migrants in the TRNC have no money and no house? would it do any good to plead for asylum there.

Oh , please, lets not have another migrant/immigrant/expatriate argument.
What is shocking about this is the man is cheating the British taxpayer and national insurance contributor, which means most of us, and particularly me and genuinely disabled people who really need help. It doesnt really matter where he goes to do it - except perhaps that presumably he is paying for his own accommodation, and not also cheating the Council tax payers by occupying large expensive house as well.

Not at all Erol yes many Brits cheat at home and are rightly punished but as you have mentioned it here I think you will find the people doing it here are not the same as in the uk. They are proffesionals and do seem to get away with it in the legal system as cousins exetera. I don,t think you will find it in the uk.

Terry: If you are talking about nepotism (ie officials favouring friends and relatives) and think it does not happen in the UK you are being naive - ever heard of the "old school tie brigade"? It may be the Brits are just a little bit more discrete about it!
As for Civil Law * - in theory it may contain more safeguards in the UK, with all our taxes spent on "Watchdog" organisations etc but in practice it is expensive, bureaucratic, complicated and time consuming and solicitors' fees are astronomical. Have you ever tried complaining to an Ombudsman about of of the big national undertakings? There is a waiting list of six months, before the case is even looked at!
*as opposed to Criminal Law on which I am not commenting either here on in the UK!)

No I am talking about the them and us, us being all who are not connected. Builders ignoring the law landowners and officials doing what they want others ignoring the law and getting away with it. If you cannot see that then you must have come yesterday.

No terry, I came in l996 - and since then I have suffered more from the - let us say unethical - behaviour of Brits both here and in the UK than from Cypriots and, with one or two notable exceptions in both, had more help from Cypriots than fellow Brits! As I said the Brits are better at covering up and perhaps I have been looking in the wrong direction.
I am not saying everything here is perfect, but it does not help visitors to get "connected" to a country to be constantly carping and criticising it and comparing with different culture at "home", particularly when it is a case of the pot calling the kettle black!

terry2366, when you are responding to a specific post, it helps to avoid confusion if you either use the "Quote" button, or address the poster by name.
I know that it's a very basic point, but often forgotten...
