A family of 4 I know is being evicted at the end of next week, the family are a good family and its the greedy landlord who is at fault. They need a roof over their heads for a month at least, does anyone have a granny flat or a small apartment that they can urgently move in to. Lapta side preferably. Any suggestions or offers can you pm me please. Thank you. Lor

If they have paid rent and utility bills they can not be evicted by anyone but the courts and then only if they have somewhere else to go to.Contact the police who can warn the owner that they are not allowed to enter the property unless invited, just a fact of TRNC tenancy law.

So the landlord was breaking the law by not registering the contract at the tax office!
They've got him over a barrel!

lor51 tell them to stay where they are.they cannot be thrown out....and if there is no written contract then the land owner is in deep sh!t! tell the family to tell the landowner they r going to report him everywhere.

The contract can be written or verbal it doesn't matter,if they are given keys then they have full occupation rights and cannot be evicted even with a court order until they have somewhere else to go too. The police should be called and they will inform the owner that they are breaking the law and any harassment will be dealt with as such.

Thank you so much for your replies. I have passed them to the family, they can't involve the police or authorities because the landlord owns the work permit for the individual and if problems are caused for them then the worry is that the work permit will be cancelled and they will be in a worse state. I have offered my garage as temp accommodation and they will move in on Friday. The individual needs to work in order to save the cash to get the family back home.

Is it too difficult to explain where home is? If the man in question has a work permit then presumably he is not an illegal, unless of course the landlord has employed an illegal, then the landlord is up to his neck in bulls doo doo. Perhaps he could be reminded of this fact?
