Ok, I'm asking for help again. As my new TV has a USB port, which cable do I need to connect my computer to the TV. I looked on the internet and it talked about connecting female and male connections. Which is which? Stella

Sorry, but the USB port is NOT (well, not usually ) for connecting the TV to a computer.
It's so that you can plug in a memory stick or external hard drive, to which you have previously saved a movie, or some songs, or just a photo album, and use the TV to play / view them.
You can check in the instruction manual to find out what 'file formats' the TV can 'read', although it's usually mp3 for music, jpg for photos, and avi for films etc.

Before anyone can answer your question, they would need to know what connectors you have on your TV
and on your computer.
Either have a look round both, and write down what connectors each one has, or look in the Customer Instruction Manuals - you will find them listed there - and then post the details on here.
If you're not sure what the connectors are called, and you no longer have the manuals, you should be able to find the manuals / specifications on the manufacturer's websites - you will obviously need to have a look for the model numbers first.

Thanks for your replies keith, and wanderer. Yes, I have lots of HDMI's on my new TV, and would you believe it, I've just looked on the back of my computer, and see I've got one the same shape their. So if I get a cable that has an HDMI both ends, will that work then.? If the answer is yes, do I just plug them both in and what's on my computer will come up on the TV, or is it more complicated.? Goodness, I'm going to impress myself soon with all this knowledge. !

stellasstar1,
1) Make sure that both the TV and the computer are turned OFF.
2) Connect the two together with the HDMI lead.
3) Turn the TV ON.
4) Press the 'input' or 'source' button on the TV's remote control to select the HDMI socket to which you have attached the lead - they are usually numbered, so do remember which one it is
5) Turn the computer ON.
6) After a couple of minutes or so, when the computer has sorted itself out, the computer display should be duplicated on the TV screen, and the computer sound output should also come through the TV speakers.
7) There are menus and settings on the computer that allow you to disable the computer's own screen and speakers, so that whatever you are looking at only appears on the TV, but these vary in layout and ease of use from computer to computer, depending on the maker, which parts he used, the software drivers, and what operating system you are using.
Concentrate on getting the basics working first, and then, if you're feeling adventurous, you can explore the more advanced options later...
note In step 4, if you find that all the HDMI inputs are 'greyed out' (not active), and the TV will not allow you to select the one you want, you may have to turn the computer ON to be able to select the correct HDMI input. Don't worry though, just try it as described above first, and see what happens.
When you turn the TV OFF it should remember which input it was 'switched to' next time that you turn it back ON, but if you turn the computer OFF as well, just make sure that when you want to use them together the next time, that you turn the TV ON first, and then turn the computer ON after that.
Good luck, and may God have Mercy on your soul
