Was quite suprised to see this bird walking on the roundabout can anyone tell me what it was. Seemed to be black & grey about half/third the size of a heron maybe slightly smaller than an egret with long sharp beak.

Never seen that kind of bird on land, but a friend told me that dalmation flamingos were emigrating from Bulgaria. I know we get the pink ones here, bt did it look the size of a flamingo? Could have been lost?

I think it was probably lost! It was nowhere near as big as a flamingo slightly smaller than egret from quick glance was trying to keep my eye mainly on my driving unusual habit here I know.

I looked at your post and could not come to any conclusion as to the likely answer.... I would imagine that it is an exhausted bird that simply put down from its migration due to fatigue - this happens quite a lot... some even fall from the sky into the sea never to make it...

Sounds like it could be a night heron or some other bird but without a more detailed description it would not be worth guessing further. Point of interest:- if anyone spots an unusual bird please try and take a photo with your mobile phone and we can maybe get more luck.

I've heard of Dalmatian Pelicans but not Dalmatian Flamingoes, we do get Greater and Lesser Flamingoes, Dalmatian Pelicans would be very rare here and I'd love to see one... we normally only see the Great White variety.
