With only two weeks to go to the start of the first ever Hike for Heroes (H4H) the two intrepid walkers are gearing up for a hard trek. Garry Abbott and Graham Inglis have been putting in the hard miles in the last few months in preparation for their 5 day, 130 mile hike from Zafar Burnu at the tip of the Karpaz to the headland just west of Sadrazamkoy. Commencing on Tuesday 3 November they intend to follow the tarmac roads as much as possible in order to keep to their punishing timeline. Mr Abbott said: “The sponsorship money is mounting, which will be split between the RBL Kyrenia Branch Poppy Appeal and the military charity Help for Heroes. But we are a little worried about the possibility of bad weather, but fingers crossed we will be fine. You can follow us electronically on an App called 'Find my Friends', which once downloaded all you then need to do is invite Gary: taff44@gmail.com or Graham: yvonneinfrance@hotmail.co.uk then once accepted, anytime the accounts are active we can be followed live en route.” He continued: “The last leg of the hike is from the Guzelyali beach bar west of Karsiyaka to Sadrazamkoy point, a distance of 14 miles, and we will be departing at 7.30am on Saturday 7 November. So if anyone would care to join us that would be fantastic. Or for the less energetic you can also join us for the final 2 miles at approximately 10.30am from Sadrazamkoy village over a rough track to the finish line at the point. It would be great to see members of the public and RBL members showing their support for us over the last few weary steps.”
