New Water meter

Just had new water meter fitted and went to Lapta Water Dept., with necessary docs and form etc to register. I was charged 30TL. No explanation and got home with new plastic card, inserted into meter and it does not show that 30 liras worth of water was purchased so was this a registration fee only?

Also friend came with us and also registered. She pays through bank DD, but she was told that the bank DD only covers for street cleaning etc not for purchase of water now . Does that mean she has to go each month to pay her bill to the office in Lapta or if she needs more water to pay over the counter? Is this correct? She does not have a car and it occurred to me also what happens if someone is elderly and unable to get there - yet they had no problem before with paying by DD?

Sounds silly but have you pressed the little black button to check amount of water remaining on card.

I understand that you can buy any quantity of water that you like from Lapta Belediye now - at 3TL per tonne. If you do not want to keep going to their office every month, it would be better to just put on 6 months or a year's worth to save the trip. The way that Lapta Belediye have been performing this year, this will probably change shortly!!

Thank you for that. So as I understand it you do have to go to the actual water office to pay - and you cant now pay by DD from your bank for water - only for the street cleaning part of the old bill. Yes, it sounds very sensible to 'buy' a lot ahead of usage, and maybe only have to then go to the office perhaps twice a year etc.

Three weeks ago (having just registered) bought and paid for ten tonnes of water (keep us going for a while!) at the local belediyesi sub-office in Karsiyaka; a week later we went up again and paid council tax etc in advance up to next March until we come out again - everything done on the smart card!
