I used her, only to find out she is not a qualified advocate. Her husband is but unfortunately she isn't. As a result she missed an important aspect of our deeds that could have lost us thousands. Having said that, many of the other "qualified" advocates also missed it too. Luckily I had a honest builder who sorted the mess out at no cost to the buyers.

I instructed Ayhan Sener a few months ago she can be contacted here
http://www.senerlawfirm.com/team/
She is not a qualified lawyer but a conveyancer working in a law firm, it helps that she is also the firms Managing Director.
http://www.newcyprusmagazine.com/cyprus ... cing-firm/
At our initial meetings Ayhan came over as polite and professional, this facade soon drops, she fails to answer emails, her PA seems to have little contact with her and runs interference when you call, cancels appointments, is always in meetings, outside the office or flying to the UK on urgent business. I was amazed our conveyance completed.
I would point out that to keep costs down it is normal now in the UK for law firms to use conveyancers or paralegals to buy and sell property.

You only have to Google Sener Law TRNC and in between all their adverts you will find many comments from customers.

I have yet to meet a person in TRNC who can recommend any advocate that answers E-mails promptly ???
Let alone keep clients up to speed with how things are going ??
It appears to me the only time advocates are quick to answer is when discussing/ accepting fees for their services ??
Quick to Insist client pays up front ???
Client then spends all the time chasing advocates ???
Comments anyone ?

I echo this sentiment. Now on advocate No 5 in 7 years for a simple (sic) house conveyancing. Still no kocan from the crooked, contract breaching, developer despite the fact we have honoured every single condition within the said contract. Previous advocates failed to attend arranged meetings without informing us they would not be there (involving a 80 kms return journey for us), never answered emails, demanded more money to do property searches we had already paid for. I could go on, but most posters will know the situation themselves.

Mine Konat represented the seller when I bought my house. She was a nightmare and my solicitor swore he would never deal with her again. He was brilliant and I would have recommended him to anyone - unfortunately they made him a judge so he's no longer available.

I thought there were a couple of solicitors named on here who came with glowing reports

I for one would love to know who these efficient advocates are! It appears that if you have a builder who is honest and adheres to the contract and legal process then you are safeguarded. However should your Advocate discover that the builder is not prepared to hand over deeds unless you pay his taxes or an additional fee, or even worse a memorandum is discovered on your property, then the Advocates appear helpless. Not sure if this is more due to the ineffective laws witnessed in the TRNC than the capability of the Advocate.

It seems to me they receive glowing reports if there are no apparent problems, but woebetide you if your case is not straight forward and you don't have an honest builder (or for that matter an honest Estate Agent). That's when the system seems to fall apart. At least that's our experience with two of them. Charming maybe but absolutely useless.

I wished I had checked her out on the old C44 before I got involved with this lot. Notourious reputation and very bad experiences for me

I thought this thread was about Aynan Sener!!!! not Mine Konat, personally I think Mine Konat is an excellent advocate, she has dealt with all my interests and done an excellent job.

jacob, bigger picture buddy. Few advocates, if any here, have the best interests of their clients at heart.

I can only go by my own experience and Mine Konat was excellent.

Agreed Jacob, she did all my stuff in 2003/ 2004 and also did my friends apartment a few years ago. We had no probs at all and I would def use her again if I wanted to sell my apartment. If I believed all these bad reports about her I wouldn't use her again. But, I don't believe them!!!!! A forum could become a dangerous thing!!!! People, just go and talk to others face to face and look at evidence, then make your own decisions!!!!!

I am pretty fed up with all this. I made the original posting with a view to enquiring about a certain solicitor/firm and itr seems to have developed into a moan about whichever firm.
Can this pleased be closed, it is not what I asked. If folks are aggrieved with whom ever can it be aired elsewhere

rowan, you sought views and received them from people who had dealt with this individual/company. Having aired their opinions, why do you bemoan them?

Tom,
Rowan was asking about a specific person.
IMHO the posting was hijacked by Carl (Carlee) who has a problem with another solicitor (advocate in this country).
Each day this forum is looking more like Cyprus 44.

jacob.
This Advocat could not even write a contract, so the other party and my wife wrote it and she signed it.
We made 5 grand from that, as the other party did not fulfil their side of the contract.
That was without going to court.

Maybe it's best to use the approved list of approved Lawyers by the British High Commission
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... ct2014.pdf
Ismet Ustuner some years go wrote "TRNC High Court in Lefkosa has a register of all approved and practising Advocates and the trainee Advocates."
Maybe worth checking out.
