Christmas Postage

Just been to Post Office in Karaglanoglu to send Christmas cards to UK and was told that as of 1st December, the 80kurus stamp is now 4TL!!! Now before I get shot down in flames and told it would cost a £1 or more in the UK and to stop moaning, I think an increase of that amount is OTT and especially now. Rip off the expats again methinks or am I just being too cynical.

I posted mine this morning at Lapta post office and was told that postage rates across TRNC increased on 1st December and I too was charged 4tll per card except for 2 very small cards which were 2.90tl each. Post man very apologetic and told me same rate applied whichever post office I went to.

Pure and simple bloody greed. No other word for it. I posted half of ours on 27th and I thought something was afoot when he weighed every single one individually instead of using his sense that all 25 were identical. Did anyone see any info in papers about the increase? Couple of years ago I asked the then Post Master in Karaoglanoglu if local people posted many letters etc and he said No. In any case what time of the year do locals post loads of cards and letters as we do?

You couldnt make it up. Will check postage rates in south, already have pobox there because these clowns cant be trusted to deliver mail even to pobox here in the north. Looks like I've bought my last stamp here in trnc. They couldnt run a p... up in a brewery.

Shame really.

Absolutely agree with you Sophie. Government increases are normally on the 1st January but they are not silly doing it now, they knew they would make a killing at our expense yet again as we are the ones doing all the posting in December, you don't see locals posting cards only business mail.

Agree with you Trooper, last cards I will be sending from here.

For those who are interested sending cards from the South would cost the equivalent of 2tl.
Based on max weight 20gr to the UK.
