Help Those With Cancer Association/Tulips are very saddened to hear that Marian Stokes of the Home Buyers Pressure Group has lost her very brave fight against cancer.
Marian died on Saturday 19th December at home, which was exactly where she wanted to be, with her partner Richard by her side. I last saw Marian a few weeks ago. Her brother had given her an i phone and I ended up giving her tips on how to use it. She was very cheerful and even though she was obviously in pain, she was telling me tales of her childhood in Ireland. I left her home, as always, feeling uplifted and in awe of her incredibly strength and positive mental attitude.
Marian helped a lot of people here with their property problems, myself and my husband included. I hope she will be remembered for the fantastic work she did in this country. Her help, support and advise made a lot of difference to very many people.
It was a privilege for me to be able to support her in my capacity as a Tulips support worker (and a friend) over the past few years. The world will be a sadder place without Marian in it.
Marian's funeral will be at 11.00 on Thursday 24th December at Lapta Cemetery.
Help Those With Cancer Association/Tulips would like to send our sincere condolences to Marian's partner, Richard, and her extended family in Ireland.
Jayne Matter
KHYD/Tulips Ex Pat Cancer Support Worker

So sorry to hear the sad news.
My husband and I only met Marian the once at a friends BBQ back in September. I found her to be a very brave and remarkable woman. Her strength was amazing. It was a great pleasure to sit and listen to the stories she had to tell.
She will be sadly missed by many many people. I hope she has now found peace & comfort. Our thoughts & prayers go out to her family & friends.
God Bless you Marian.

So sorry to hear this sad news.
Mary and I met her on a number of occasions while going through the courts and found her to be very supportive.
Yet another loss of life through this awful disease.
R.I.P.

What an absolute shame. Here was a volunteer determined to assist with righting the wrongs of the rip-off property scammers. I was unaware of her illness and have even more respect for her having learned of this. Marian, RIP and thank you so very, very much for your concern and efforts.

So sorry to hear about Marian, although I did know she was very ill and had been for a quite a long time. I together with a few others followed close behind her when Home Buyers Pressure Group was first founded and her drive to right so many wrongs, was amazing. Her refusal to bow down under pressure from Legal, Government and Builders in the TRNC is legendary. They met their match when Marian came along. RIP Marian and sincere condolences to Richard who was her stalward supporter.

Never met her, but from various web pages/sites etc, she was very much appreciated and respected for her perseverance, determination and the hard work she did for many people involved in property problems. A sad occasion at any time, but especially at this time of year - my sympathy to her family.

So sad to hear this news. The last time I met her, was about about 6 months ago when she gave me lift into Girne from a Tulip's coffee morning at the Food Lodge in Catalkoy. A lovely lady who will be sadly missed, but not forgotten R.I.P. Marian.

Marian did more to help people with property problems than all the lawyers in Girne, combined and all without charge. I said to her, at one of her Pia Bella "surgeries", that her patience, tact and compassion were those of a saint. I expect her Maker will see that now, in person.

Very sad news. Marian helped an awful lot of people and gave up lots of her time. She helped many with wills as well as property problems. She was one of life's givers.
God rest her soul.

So sad to hear about Marion. If it had not been for her we would never have got our deeds. She worked tirelessly for others without any monetary recompense. One of a kind and will be sorely missed

Very sad to hear about Marian. I only met her once at one of her regular property 'surgeries' at the Pia Bella a couple of years ago, but she was very helpful.

I was saddened to hear about Marian.
Without her knowledge, her support and unfailing commitment to help those with property nightmares, myself and other buyers on our site would not have achieved in getting our villas finished.
Thank you Marian, may you rest in peace.
May your partner and family have the courage to face this difficult time.

I have known this lovely lady almost 10 years and will never forget her tenacity in the face of adversity. When I saw her a few years ago at the Pia Bella clinic it was obvious that she had lost weight and was not in the best of health so I asked her why she continued to do this debilitating work, as by then she had achieved so much for the expat community. She simply looked at me and with a glint in her eye replied: "Brian, I am from Dublin, I like a fight!". That is my abiding memory of a charming and fantastic warrior. RIP Marian.

As her brother said this morning and Richard agreed and Marian believed it - when you look up at the night sky tonight and see a star twinkling a little brighter than the rest, that will be Marian. An Irish twinkle of course!
