Gravel extraction at Crystal Bay beach

Yesterday, I saw a builder with a JCB and 40 tonne truck helping himself to gravel from the beach.
I suppose he felt that as builders have already contributed so much to the shoreline - rivers of solidified concrete, dunes of rubble and drifts of plastic packaging and drums - they deserved something in return. No doubt the trench created can be put to good use such as for dumping animal remains or wrecked cars.
This little corner of heaven on earth gets smaller by the day.
