Malpas Hotel Christmas day evening meal 2015

This was the first time we have been to a big Hotel at Christmas and it will definitely be the last. There was lots of food, the starters were ok but when we looked for turkey or other roast meat, we were very disappointed. The turkey looked and tasted as if it had been the left overs from the lunch, the pork was a help yourself job and it looked like a lot of children had attempted to carve, such a mess!! There was some nice tongue and liver which I happen to like but not everybody's choice. Vegetables also looked like they had been there all day. As for deserts..............arggghhh.................looked pretty but...................
As most dishes was a help yourself and nobody there to check them, they were all very messy looking!!! Never ever again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Having drinks included in the price was the only good bit. Drowned our sorrows!!!
The singer was passable, but it was so very loud, conversation at table was impossible. I love my music loud for dancing, but I wasn't there just for dancing!!!

I prefer to stay at home. Since I do al the cooking, I know that it will not disappoint.

6 of us sat down to 6 courses, all very light.

Since neither of us drink, we offered a free taxi service to our guests who left our house very happy.

Oh dear, Eva. That's a shame.
We had an excellent meal and afternoon at Al Shaheen in Karakum. They just get better and better each Christmas.
Proper Turkey and all the trimmings, great atmosphere.
Happy new year to you.

Sorry to hear about your bad Christmas lunch, maybe you should try a smaller venu next time.
We went to Baroosh for our lunch and it was the best. The food was excellent and the company
was the best you could have wished for. Warm and friendly atmosphere with the the best hosts
we think on the island.

3 Christmases ago we booked for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals but did not actually sleep at the Malpas. I can honestly say it was the worst culinary experiences on the Island - absolutely appalling. The turkey was Bernard Mathews turkey roll, honestly. I half jokingly said it to a waiter and not knowing any different he said he would go and check. Lo and behold he confirmed it. Music was so loud that some people at the next table actually went and pulled wires out of the back of a speaker which was big enough for the Albert Hall. Ghastly experience.

"...pulled wires out..."?

How CRUDE!

I always have a small pair of insulated wire cutters secreted about my person, and in the event that the music is too loud, and requests to moderate the volume are ignored, well...

We have had the pleasure of dining at Fatma & Johns, very pleasant experience & 5 star food! Maybe you should open a restaurant. We went to Black Olive for Christmas Day. Excellent spread, service & company.

The venue was chosen by other people and as we had never gone to a really big hotel for any occasion, we thought we would go with our friends. If they wouldn't have been there, we probably would have left quite early. It was an experience!!

We wish all of you a very happy, healthy and fun filled New Year and hoping that all your dreams will come true

That's a lovely photo of you both Eva! A very Happy New Year to you!

Thank you to both you and Becker for your glowing references! You never know, if we could sort out garden out, we could have a 'pop up restaurant' in the summer.

I've been thinking about doing lessons Sophie, just need to find a suitable venue.

We went to the Malpas for the xmas lunch and could not fault it andmim a really fussy cow. We say by the singer and my little girl spent the whole time singing and dancing away. Wish we had spent the whole xmas there

I sang at the Malpas Hotel for the Christmas Day lunch......no one pulled my speaker wires out and everyone was having a nice time. that I know from the applause I received at the end of my performance and all the lovely comments.
Please don't confuse me with the singer in the evening. I don't know who it was........but it wasn't me !!!!
Dawn.....
happy New Year !!!! I would also like to book for next year at Fatmas !!!!!

We also went to Al Shaeen's for Christmas and New Year great food only thing that spoiled the Christmas dinner was the length between course's we arrived at 1.30 didnt leave till 6pm after sweet, needed to postone guests we'd invited for tea.
New Year was much better and has said food was lovely.

The friends we went with had booked into the hotel for the Christmas period and they said the food was ok at lunchtime, but they agreed the evening roast turkey and some other dishes seemed to them like the leftovers from lunch. The evening singer, he/she was quite good, and if you didn't want to talk to anybody and just dance all the time, it was probably also ok.

Not for us...too impersonal........ maybe we are just not 'Big Hotel' people.
