Manchester is always dearer than any other U K airport. I looked at Monarch to Larnaca £30 going £220 to get back to Manchester.

sorry Brend, am I confusing people? I'm flying from Ercan to Manchester in February. When I checked a couple of weeks ago it was £207, now its £219 - I' ve been told that if I leave it until the middle of January it will be cheaper - but I'm not sure if that's the case, is it just going to get more expensive?

Monarch Manchester to Larnaca? Hate to ask, but Monarch's last flight on that route was 20 May 2015 - we took that route just a few days earlier; later in the year we had to use Thomas Cook. Monarch are now using Leeds/Bradford, Birmingham, Luton and Gatwick.... For Manchester, it's Jet2, Thomas Cook, Thomson.

Gatwick to Larnaca with EasyJet, without hold luggage, without food or drinks, booked Jan 8th using lastminute.com, Travel date Jan 12th, £67.99
Flight was on-time, cabin crew friendly and efficient, not a lot of room, so wouldn't suit anyone much over 100Kg...

Keithcaley. Apart from the air fares quoted (which, incidentally, are very reasonable) what are the other costs involved within Cyprus? Taxi fares (return journey) or fuel, insurance, parking costs at LCA? I do not ask to demean but to make comparisons based on ECN-UK travel costs/convenience.

Hi, You raise some very good points - I suppose it depends partly on how far you live from the airport, and whether you've got a pal 'on tap' to pick you up!
I recently travelled to the UK and back.
Outbound, I used Turkish Airlines, ECN > LGW, getting a 'free' (to me!) lift at this end, and a National Express coach at the UK end cost: Flight £130, coach £23. Time to ECN from Alsancak about 1 hour.
For the return, LGW > LCA, I used coach (£20) and Easyjet (£67.99) with, once more, a 'free' lift at this end. Time from LCA to Alsancak about 1 hour 35 mins.
For those paying Taxi fares, they would, of course, need to consider the difference in the cost of fares to and from ECN and LCA, and as you rightly point out, there's always mileage, fuel, maintenance & extra insurance costs to take into account for those using private transport.
I did not, by posting these examples of flight costs, intend to suggest that they would be appropriate to everyone, or even that they would be the cheapest overall, I sought merely to provide the information so that people could look at their own situation, and figure in the various other factors for themselves.
As every individual's requirements will differ, it seems an impossible task to give a 'one size fits all' type of comparison...
Oh! - and I haven't used long term parking at either airport, although I think that ECN may be cheaper, and secure off-site parking (with shuttle service included) is available near LCA.

Just an idle thought - (the BIG) if......there ever is an agreement/settlement, I wonder whether the original Nicosia airport would be renovated/re-opened? For those (like me) from 'oop North' who want Girne and points west, there is little choice but direct to Larnaca and about 90 min LCA to destination - with anything from 30 to 150 min to the UK airport (L/pool, Man or Leeds).
To Ercan? Only with a change at Istanbul and high prices - and even then, the hour from Ercan to W. of Girne....
If only - direct flights from Northern England airports to Nicosia International.... (can always dream...)

If you are flying to Larnaca you can hire a car for about £80 for 2 week at this time of year. We did it last year and it worked out cheaper than a taxi.

I just realised that I had not mentioned the differences in flight duration...
ECN to London airports involves a mandatory stop in Turkey as you all know, which increases the ECN > UK journey time to a minimum of around 6 hours - and when a change of aeroplane or even airline, is involved this can be as much as 15 hours, as mentioned in another post.
LCA to London direct flight time is around the 5 hour mark with all the airlines that I've used - I have no personal experience of indirect routes, others may care to comment.
The other factor affecting total journey time is the wait for a coach or train connection, and the timings of the various changes, if any are required. I tend to use National Express coaches, and although they run fairly frequently (typically every 90 minutes or so, on the journeys that I make) this can start to 'add up' if the flight timings are such that you arrive 'just too late' to catch one coach, and have to wait for the next. This can be an issue with flights to LGW, if you need to transfer to Heathrow or Victoria Coach Station for a connection, particularly with the last BA flight to LGW which usually arrives 30 minutes after the last coach has left - involving an overnight wait for the next one!
So, there are a lot of things to consider, and you can spend a lot of time juggling flight times & connections and onwards journey times and connections, all the while comparing prices, and thinking about baggage allowances
For the faint hearted, there's always the lovely Libby at Esta Travel... (or one of the other Travel Agents of course).
Have fun!

...and as though that wasn't enough to think about, I just received an email with details of
Norwegian Airlines Sale with 50,000 seats going for
under £29.99...
Not strictly TRNC related, but hey! - why not take a holiday?
As I mentioned in my last post, it is worthwhile contacting one of the local Travel Agents, because they may well have access to deals that are not advertised to the general public, such as surplus seating on charter flights et al, and of course they have the experience to organise a trip involving multiple stops and changes of mode of transport, as well as catering for special requirements such as diets and physical assistance - I do realise that it can be a little daunting for an individual to face dealing with many different organisations when you aren't aware of all the 'ins and outs'.
