I think it best to check what system you are now on, as I found out to my cost today.

The villa where I live in Ozankoy had no electricity today, and by dusk I noticed that my neighbour had lights! I have not had a paper bill to my property for a while, but until tonight had not really thought about it! I also wrongly assumed that not having electricity today was just part of this power cut business. Anyway I spoke to my neighbour and was told that he now gets his bill sent by email/text every month and that I should have registered for that. Apparently our meters have been changed.

Oddly I have another property in Ozankoy that still receives paper bills and I paid the last one as usual, over the counter 3 weeks ago! No problem, but no meter has been changed there.

So having realised by 5pm tonight that I had actually been cut off, I went down to the cash point withdrew some money, changed to lira, and then drove to the grid place (where they have all the electricity pylons) near to the Wednesday market, to see if I could get reconnected. Fearing the worst given the time!

A nice man helped translate and one of the staff went to check the computer, found my account number from the name/address (I could not even find an old bill to show him), and then came back with the account number, and tapped it in to the payment machine. I owed over 1100 TL, so was a few months worth! So I paid what I owed in to the machine, and the nice man told me when I got home, my electricity would be on again!

And it was...

So if you have not had a recent bill, live in Ozankoy in particular, then I would suggest you go down to Kibtek, pay up and register yourself for online payments!
