Turkish by Internet

I made a New Year resolution to improve my Turkish, and the cheapest and easiest accessed seems the Internet. Has anyone tried , and can they recomend a safe site, particularly Babbel. Is it really free, and is it safe to give them my email address ?
And do any of them tackle the tricky subject of grammar. The samples I have accessed give vocabularly I already know, but part of my problem is putting the words together in the right order, and minor grammatical slips can change the meaning in Turkish more than in English?

But İ have learnt, the verb is always at the end of the sentence.A few other things:İf your have a number, there is no plural in the noun.So 2 dog....iki kopek..............my dog kopeğim the 'k' changes to a vowel,a silent 'ğ' because a vowel after !! and 'im' is my.
Hope Meral reads this !!!

Thank Mike, but I lost a lot of money, and live a very restricted life now and cannot afford luxiuries like lessons. Also I only have time to spare in the evenings and cant drive then because my poor little car is blinded by headlights of larger vehicles. I have several books, but I thought the Internet might be more interactive and also include pronunciation, which is another of my problems, although I know that is different with Cypriot Turkish.
PS very good, but can you cope with vowel harmony and the possessive in Turkish? Both the possessor and the thing possessed take different suffixes!

RR, have you tried the free Introduction to Turkish course on YouTube? There are currently 45 tracks (more to be added later) which would probably take at least 5 hours to get through - not that anybody would tackle them all at once. See

There is a very good and interactive, free internet site called Duolingo. This is useful if you already have some command of Turkish, as it will correct your grammatical errors and improve your pronunciation. Most importantly, you work through different levels, so you can track your improvement.
Hope this helps.

Thanks to all for your responses and suggestions. I did ask if you were safe to put my name and email address (including Babbel which on the sample seemed good) . Sorry if that sounds paranoid but I am where the Internet is concerned! A little knowledge is a dangerous thing there I feel.
Mike: I will have a go at the letter but it may take a little time - I can type fast in English because I can touch type, but that actually slows me down in other languages. Also though I have a Turkish keyboard and can set to use it with the Turkish keys, I dont know how to get a Turkish spell check so have to keep reverting to my old fashioned dictionary.

Hi RR,
If you are using word, then select “REVIEW” from the menu, then select “Language”, select “Set Proofing Language”. This will open a window listing all the languages your computer has access too. If Turkish is listed then select it.
Hope this helps
