Has anyone visited or passed by the dam recently? Is it filling up with water from Turkey yet?

NO it is just as it was a week after the water started to run.

The worrying thing is - how true is the report in
Thursday's Zaman of contamination before the water is pumped over from Turkey?

You couldn't make it up, could you?

Hi Soner
Had a walk around the reservoir three days ago. There was no water flowing into the reservoir. I have just sent some photographs of the reservoir over for the gallery.

We have been going to the dam over the past few months. Over the past month the water level has risen above the inlet point below the wooden tower and has been rising slowly.

Thanks for the photos Mike. Looks quite full, was that from rain or water pumped from Turkey?

If contaminated as Jofra's links states, then suppose it will be good for agriculture....

Of course it's filling up with water. The level is rising day by day, as it gets fuller the width gets wider so it's not so noticeable. The inlet from Turkey is under the water so you won't actually see the water coming in.

There is a small island which was created when the water started to flow, this is just to the left of the inlet, it is still out of the water. The road on the inside of the dam is still well above the waterline which is below the inlet. There is no water coming from Turkey at the moment. The small increase in level may be due to the rain we have had, plus the farmers in Gecikoy are not pulling any water from the dam any more for their land.

Karmels, << removed >> The road on the inside of the dam has been under water for a long time and the level is rising daily. As has been said as the level rises the reservoir gets wider so the filing takes longer. It has always been said that it will take months to fill so let's be patient and enjoy the happening. It looks great and is a fantastic achievement.

We walk there regularly and the water is certainly coming in because our walk is getting shorter......we are very surprised by some comments as we see it so differently....the guys are testing all channels too, they are working everyday up there..............

Obviously they are 'dam half-empty' people!
Of course as the level rises and the reservoir gets wider (the sides are sloped not vertical after all) then each inch will take progressively more water to cover - basic geography/maths/geometry....

Well I think Mike's photos pretty much confirms that it is being filled
http://www.kibkom.com/gallery.php. It was empty when I last visited.

Yes you can drive right up and across the dam if you wish, it's a bit difficult to explain but if you experiment a bit once you get to the other side of Gecitkoy village, you will find the way.
