I have just heard that Burhan has been convicted and sentenced for three and a half years and is in prison now - outrageous!!!!

Convicted for 'environmental damage', I.e the turtles environment, too much light,.... whatever......total crap........hotels like Artemis and Noah's Ark can do what they like!!!!!

THREE AND A HALF YEARS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!! HE HASN'T KILLED ANYBODY

Dippersgirl, sorry to hear about Burhan, scapegoat comes to mind. "Environmental damage" never been at the forefront before!

It would be good if someone connected with SPOT and the Marine Turtle Project oculd put some comment on here. I will try to get them to do so, but of course that end of the island is under the Government. Sounds shoc king to be and ocmpletley over the top.

On our first visit to TRNC in 2011, our friends took us to (among other places) the panhandle, to the Apostolos Andreas Monastery, Gazimağusa and other places, and we called in at Golden Beach on the way back (coffee etc) - a marvellous place and a wonderful day - what "environmental damage"?
On the drive out, we saw one or two new marinas and hotel developments under construction - but then perhaps they had made suitable "contributions to civic funds"? (As has worked so well next to me in the UK - but that's another story....)

What an absolute disgrace, we have huge hotels and apartment blocks springing up all over the place, a lot of the building rubbish is dumped in the ravines which causes flooding when it rains heavily.We have coastline all over the island being polluted by plastic bags, bottles, dead animals even at times, who is brought to task for these attacks on the environment.Then someone who is running a popular business which attracts tourism is jailed, you just couldn't make it up, who is running this place, Captain Calamity.

So what are "and the others" that are to be pulled down please?

Some 12 years ago,discovering Northen Cyprus,and usually staying in an hotel in Girne,the highlight of my stay was always a weekend in the Karpaz,usually staying a night or two in Burhan's place.Taking the old road,first coffee stop in Kaplica,there was a coloured photo of the Karpaz,and the inscription was something like 'A little piece of heaven on Earth'And that is how İ will always remember that part of the world....then the drive through fields of carob trees,alongside the windy road,so many rare wild orchids.And in the trees coloured birds,blue,green,Then through Dıpkarpas and onto the sea !!!Burhan's place was always so tidy,little wooden chalets,spotlessly clean.Lovely restaurant with panoramic views of the golden beaches..and as a single man my girl friends were equally enamoured.The only noises outside the chalets were goats or donkeys.......in the morning choose your individual private spot on the miles on golden sands.Ahhh Burhan,thank you for the magic moments !!!!

Presumably if a wealthy investor from Turkey or Israel wanted to build another Cratos or Kaya Artmis Hotel/Casino on Golden beach that would be OK would it?

Have you any idea how many petitions have been presented to goodness knows how many "Ministers" in that place? Now have a guess as to how many have been read and acted upon.

What has maybe happened here is that the poor guy has been made "an offer he cannot refuse" for his business, and has refused.

You may bet his imprisonment has nothing to do with environment or infrastructure.

I run the restaurant as my place two to year. I made the bungalow next two. This is where I land my deeds. I use the remaining homes before 1974 and restored eff restaurant. Legally, I'm doing everything I have, but not allowed near the two bungalows. While our fault of course, but there has been no response, so we just verbally warned. Other friends penalties are not really acceptable. They also killed a man took such a penalty can not get our minds.

If I am reading this correctly then all permissions were granted & along they come & charge this man.

I could understand if TRNC was a dictatorship but then maybe it is as we all know money talks & what a prime piece of "Real Estate" as they over the pond say.

From what I've read, I sympathise with and support Burhan & co., but I note Cally's remark "...then all permissions were granted..."
Hopefully, he (they) did not stray from the conditions attached to those permissions.
If Burhan is not a big company, he has no chance - over the last forty years, my "next-door neighbours" - 34 years one international company, last 6 years another international company - have frequently "developed/redeveloped", gaining planning permission - each time they have NOT complied with conditions, occasionally getting retrospective permission, sometimes not - they are big companies, so they get away with it - the brown envelope flourishes in the UK as well...

next hearing on 21.03.2016 at Iskele court, apparently anybody can attend and we and our friends will be there to show Burhan and all the others we are support him and are hoping for a better outcome. Whatever you think, 3½ years prison is totally out of order.

I don't know how to copy the page, screen shot I think it is called.
I am not sure of the questions re device, I have a Lenovo laptop, new last year & more up to date than previous as I have a camera for skype etc.

It did cross my mind yesterday, but will hold judgement on that until someone else says it's to do with something else, maybe technical. Tried placing cursor on all things you would think obvious to access and it didn't work.

I've tried 3 different Browsers: - Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Firefox, and I've tried it both with and without a VPN, so that I would appear to be either in UK or TRNC - and it appears absolutely normal and usable to me.

I think that you'll have to hope that someone cleverer comes along...

I've tried using -
1. Dell laptop/Win7 (64 bit) Firefox, Internet Explorer 11, Chrome and Tor browsers;
2. Acer laptop/Win 7 (32 bit) Firefox, Internet Explorer 11, Chrome and Tor browsers - Firefox (as my default browser) has adblocker add-ons, the others do not.
I have clicked directly on the link; alternatively copied the link location and pasted in a new browser tab, and in all cases, I have had no problems whatsoever!
Just one thought as a (far-fetched) possible cause - some firewall setting?

Ah - Java! Perhaps that's why I'm OK - I do have it enabled (for some other progs), even it does have its faults and frailties....

Another post lost from earlier, many thanks to Erol for the link, it mentioned 3rd party Firefox add-ons, "how to find", I'm afraid with my limited knowledge of all things IT I didn't click any further. It is annoying really as I sign petitions on a daily basis & ones in TRNC, so find it rather strange I can't sign this one. One more vote either way, I give up but thanks for your time & patience Erol & Keith.

In two weeks there will be some sort of hearing, don't know exactly, if it is just for the people concerned or what. One thing that will happen after this, is, that Burhan and Teko will will be able to talk with their visitors properly across the table. Now they have to talk to their visitors with a glass between them and talking is via telephone. It's incredible!!! I thought only murderers had that sort of treatment!!!!!

Read a couple of days ago that there was a man in Kumyali, who repeatedly sexually assaulted a 5 year old girl and he got 3 years prison!!!!

Also, sorry Cally that you had so much trouble, couldn't help you
