Looking for really good steaks, cooked as we want, medium to rare, any recommendations? Ideally, west of Girne , Lapta, Alsancak etc. Recommendations please.

Go East young man. Erols in Ozankoy Village. Worth the travel and a charming village.

Best place for steak on the west - Carpenters restaurant in Karaoglanoglu or Silver Rocks in Lapta

If you go east, the old Rose Garden in Ozankoy village. Fillet steaks beat every thing I've had anywhere.

I'd agree that Carpenters takes some beating - particularly for a nice aged T-Bone... mmm.... cooked exactly as you like it.

BUT! - last night I had a truly scrumptious steak at the Merit Royal Steakhouse - real 'melt in your mouth' stuff, and everyone else's was the same, so I'm 'torn'...

Of course, there's always the option of visiting the 'Fast Food Butcher' in Alsancak village - he's the father of the guys who run the 'Fast Food restaurant', and is certainly the best butcher that I've come across here - and then take your steak home and cook it just how you like it!

thornaby, not sure if you are talking about the Rose Garden when Hasan ran it, but it is now being run by AJ, so not the same at all. I would be amazed to get a better steak there than in Erols, just my opinion of course. You really should try Erols for the best fillet steak in Ozankoy.

Keith, we got some steak from that butcher a couple of weeks ago, and have to say it was fabulous.....he cut it from the bone whilst we were there, trimmed, and it was just perfect when cooked, as you say, just how we like it. Have tried buying steak before in supermarkets but tough as old boots and not much taste, but from that butcher it is excellent.

Don't get out to TRNC as much as I would like, but had a fantastic fillet steak with various sauces to choose from at the Calamari restaurant in Lapta.

I would second the Merit Royal. Fab steak and excellent service. Lovely surroundings and not pretentious at all.

I don't eat steaks but I have a very fussy brother and husband who like their steaks rare and medium and although the Carpenters delivered on this the best by far for ambience and service is the steak house in the merit hotel in Alsancak.....superb everytime.

Mrsgee, have eaten steak at erols several times never had a problem. The Rose garden is now as you say a.js. His fillet steak and T bones are superb they may well be equaled in quality elsewhere but impossible to better. Just my opinion!

I think Merits food overall is just the best Both Crystal Cove and Royale. St. Tropez is superb, Also Clamari Lapta. Also as someone mentioned ,maybe Keith , to cook yourself Fast Food Butcher is spot on. I use his steak in some of the products I make and it is consistently good . I like steak fairly well done, but to i have to say it looks good enough to eat raw.
