Today Daily Sabah reports that when calling up map of Cyprus the northern part of island will say Turkish Republic Northern Cyprus. Great.

But what does it say if you call up a map on Google?

Hmmm, I Googled 'Maps' and got the old version -no TRNC! How do I get the new version?

Once in Google maps, just type TRNC Cyprus in the search box....

my posting of thi s informaiton on Facebook has brought a bigger response than anything i have ever previously written (about 300 responses). What is somewhat sad however, is that I wrote this with a note of 'triumph' it has brought some real nasty backlash out of the woodwork. All the old 'nuggets' of how it should never be etc, etc have been posted. Comments on greedy interring WASPS ( do any still actually exist?), and a digging up of incorrect historical facts etc.

I am now almost tempted to delete it. ! I thought it was super that Google did this (even if one has to search for it) as so many people know so little about the island that it is good to see both sides have a name!

Surely if the post proves anything then, it is that the right result is coming out eventually.

Various sources, probably CG have for years been on the back foot about NC. They have tried everything to remove anything NC from any source, and have always, in the end, failed. This tells you far more about the people from a failed (politically and financially) than anything.

Leave it there. It will remind those that posted of the old comments after the Oram's decision of things like "don't you under stand, it's all over" and "we are coming to remove you all from the North" etc etc.
We are all still waiting.

And, incidentally, the street names have already been on there for over 2 years! and the map was updated with the Karaoglanaglu bypass road 2 years or so ago also.
