Until the owner is found, the Catalkoy riding school may be able to assist. At least they will know how to handle a horse and help to untangle it etc.

I agree the riding school is quite close, so best maybe to get in touch with them, they may even know who the horse belongs to, horses are not that common around here.

Poor thing but good suggestion from Judy sorry I know nothing about horses & do not have enough room for one.
Would think it best to untangle it, feed & water but leave where it is for the time being maybe it was just left there to graze by its not too knowledgeable owner.

Have contacted the riding school but they have not come forward with help. It is over 24 hours now that the horse has been here and prior to that we have found out that I has been running scared around the village for up to 10days.
BBB has gone down to buy more provisions for it and we may have a lead to the owner but it is a slim chance.

Even if the Riding School has not come forward with any help ask them if they can at least provide some hay for it. Horses digestions cannot cope without fodder. Oats etc are less important. Water too is vital
My user name is my horse!!

If the horse has not had water for a long time do not let it have too much and not cold as it may bring on colic. This reminds me of the horse who was tethered on the road leading to the mountain adjacent to you .The owner was the famer and kindly people used to feed it but they all were told not to . Maybe the village municipality police can help

Thank you all for your advice.
The owners have been traced and have told a tale worthy of a Hans Anderson Story of why this poor horse has been running loose in the village for ex amount of days.
They have not offered to come and take the horse to a safer and more secure place but what they have offered is to sell it.
BBB is not a happy man and I am just not wanting this beautiful animal to go back to a place where it is obviously not wanted or cared for.
Any help from anyone would be much appreciated and you can PM us.

Not quite the outcome you would of liked, but as you say it would be best to remove the horse from them. How much are you going to offer.
Would the riding school not be interested, I know there is another one but it is Karsyiaka way I think.

It is already difficult to rehome a horse. If they are willing to give it away, provided someone can take some pictures, I am positive I can assist in rehoming him/her. Can someone help in this regard?

Depending on where the owners live, how would the law react if the horse just "wandered off"....

Has anyone untangled thıs poor beast from the bushes?: If you are scared of the horse you can do it from the other end off the rope or cut the rope and tie to to something else! Is it tied to a tree or something or is it a metal rod stuck in the ground. If the latter and the forecast is right about heavy rain it may well come loose anyway overnight! And if there is thunder the horse may run amok anyway and be even more of a danger to itself and others, including traffic. If it does get loose the Police should be told anyway because of traffic risk.
I hope messages 6 and 7 have been read re food and water, If you want to attract the horse give it apples or carrots which should not do much harm, Sugar and polo mints are bad for horses, but they do love them, and a way to make friends with it in an emergency.

Right, so 500 tl....a bit over a hundred quid....not a lot for a horse.....so, what is the problem....sorry, but if someone really wants to save this horse....given the fact it is an ongoing responsibility...well just do it!! Everyone wants to look after dogs...but clearly the horse will need a bit more than most people can give. Just saying...I truly hope someone can help because in my opinion horses are the most most beautiful animals, So, this is an honest offer, i will give the 500tl, to buy the horse, for anyone on this forum that is willing to look after it. x

Just to put Ragged Robins mind at rest, we had untangled the horse and when it somehow broke free yesterday morning and went running down the mountain road towards where all the buses are for The Olive Tree Hotel, luckily BBB managed to grab the rope.
It was a bit like a Benny Hill scene though as two stray cats that have recently ''found ''us was running at the back as well.
We had taken advice on feeding and watering and have really done our best for it and a neighbour was our ''voice'' in informing all the authorities including the Police.
Someone has contacted us last night who comes highly recommended by another animal lover and he has offered to fetch the horse and look after it and hopefully bring it back to a good condition, either then to find it a good home or keep it himself.
It just needs now to be ''bought'' from its so called owners.

Tell the "Owners " to do one if they can't be bothered looking after it.

We would love to because the poor horse is so skinny and undernourished. It is going to take a lot of time end effort to bring it back to the condition it should be in.
Unfortunately they hold the key for this to be able to happen and it is emotional blackmail as they know people like us care.
BBB is worried about the legal part as well and a letter of sale or something would have to be drawn up and witnessed before any money is handed over, don't you think.?

thank bbb I was having nightmares of it panicking in a thunderstorm (forecast was wrong!) and breaking a leg in the rope!
Just my luck - all my life I have wanted a horse of my own - now when I get the change I have
neither the physical strength nor the money to look after it! And even if I sacrificed part of the garden for a stable, how could I get it out - the only access is a once quiet village street that now resembles a motoroway and is dangerous enough for people with dogs, let alone on horses!

Provided it only needs food and care to get back into condition, the value would depend on age and what it has been broken (trained) for. Ie carthorse or racehorse?
Away from the riding stables, you usually see horses here in the processessions part of the circumcision ceremonies, These horses must be pretty good natured to carry a young boy with all that noise around. I wonder if someone keeps a stable of them for hiring out for the purpose.>?
Yes if the horse is bought there ought to be some form of receipt , but then perhaps those claiming to be the current owners should prove THEIR title first!
And of course we trust each other, but if the person who buys is hands it on to someone else to care for their should be a licence and a written agreements about the conditions it should be kept in.
Otherwise someone might be let in for a shock ifit went on to win the Grand National!

But do try to keep to our smaller four footed frıends ın future, BB ! (Joke!)
I love horses and only wish I could have taken this one, but they do not make such easy pets as dogs and cat -, a bit big to curl up in a basket or the foot of one's bed and cant be house trained.
I do however miss the days when N. Cyprus still sometimes used real equine horse power (mules and donkey in the village street) rather than the unnecessarily large replacement under a bonnet. They smelled better too and the emissions were good for the roses.

Just so relieved on this one!
In England it was bats, hedgehogs, farm cats and kittens and the occasional dog but NEVER a horse.
Never a dull moment eh!

Deniz1 I can hand on heart tell you - it was hilarious. I am still tittering now.
We are just so relieved that a happy ending has been found for this poor horse!
The home that has been found for her has asked us to name her and with the help of special family members back in the UK and because of the beautiful colouring of her coat we have decided on - ANNIE.
The ''owner'' was asked today the name of her and he grunted 'horse'! Says it all really!

The people who have taken on the horse are true heroes, keeping a horse can be very costly if you are going to do the job properly, this is coming from a person who knows.

For those who may be interested and have been following the story of the horse I would just like to give you all a quick update.
I spoke to the gentleman last night who has taken on looking after her and he is really pleased with her.
She had never been stabled before because her reaction was as bad as when he loaded her in to the horse box but she trusts him and is now happily settled in. He has seen worse physical cases than her but he has never seen a horse eat so much!
She is ''talking'' to him already and is showing signs of being a very intelligent girl. Over the next few days he will do more with her but for now gently, gently.
We have named her Annie and if anyone would like to go and see her you would be most welcome, Please PM me and I can give you directions to where she is.
Maybe she could be the Kibkom Mascot?
I would like to thank the lovely couple who came to see me this morning at The Hut and who have given so generously to Annie and also to Kibkom for being here!

Been to visit Annie this morning in her new surroundings. Davut, who will be caring for her is a lovely man. She is looking very well considering, and was quite friendly, if a little bit timid. She was soon eating apple out of our hands.......she will be a lovely girl, many thanks to BBB for arranging for her rescue. Apples and Carrots are welcomed if anyone is passing. I did take some photos which I will try to upload, she is not camera shy.....lol
