Notification of speeding ticket

A neighbor had a visit from Girne Police today informing him cameras had recorded him speeding on 3 occasions and that he should report to Girne Police Station to pay his fines. No approach was made by the official to recover the money there and then and my neighbor reported that the paperwork appeared to be correct and in order. Has this occurred to anyone else on this forum?

Hi alanandann,
Yes, after we bought our car, 2 or 3 plain clothes police came to our door.
Similar to what you have described.
Basically to let us know of the outstanding fine on our car.
Always check the date, time and location of the offence.
Someone borrowed our car, we paid for their speeding offence.
It was only later we realised it was neither of us.

I have had a speeding fine delivered this afternoon to my home by hand.
It was dated in December and we have 14 days to pay it. I didn't know
that they delivered to people direct, but I now know different.

Last year I went South, came back and wad told at passport control I had 4 tickets. One dated 2011, the next 2012, the last two 2013. Went to Girne police and paid all.

Since 2011 I'd been in and out of the country four times without mention of a ticket. Seems they've speeded up their admin since then.

I flew into Ercan a few years ago and at passport control was told i had a speeding ticket from 18 months previous ?
Went to Girne police and was told i had 7 days to pay or the fine would double...so i paid on the 7th day.

The curious thing was I had visited the island 3 times after the date of the offence ?

Policeman knocked on the door one morning last year with a speeding summons for my other half. He requested his p/port which I supplied, he then asked for my p/port so I dutifully produced it.
I signed his form believing I was signing for a receipt of the summons.

We went to Girne police station to pay the fine. The policeman insisted on having my license & p/port. He tried to explain that I wasn't driving the car when the offence occurred he was, but the policeman was having none of it. Result was I got the points on my licence.
Be careful what you sign on the doorstep!!!

I find when such an error occurs that hitting the back arrow takes me back to my post with text still there....

It's always worth it, if you are in town, to pop into the police station, and get them to check the system to see if anything g is outstanding.
