Our cat has just been taken to the Vet who diagnosed poisoning.
Area Camelot, SIBA warehouse, Green Garage
Just to make you aware if you have any pets roaming in this area.

Hi, how is the cat now? - Is it OK?
I live just across the field opposite SIBA, on the road that runs down from Green Petrol towards the sea.
I have three cats, and walk a puppy twice a day down that road, past SIBA and then down to Camelot Beach and back.
Do you have a more precise location where your cat might have picked up this Poison?
Did the Vet give any indication as to the type of Poison?
My English neighbour and I do know some of the local TC and English residents, so we might be able to help find the culprit...

could the poison be on the site of the warehouse? It would help to have fuller details to warn the people of the area.
I do hope the cat is O.K. now. I really worry about my cats. Dog goes out on a lead - not much fun for her, but so far safe, but cats road so far afield. I am O.K up here but poisoning does happen in our village.
Realy sorry, and hope that all the animals are safe.
Thanks for the warning.

I've managed to secure my 3 cats inside, the dog is attached to a lead on a long run outside.
I also sighted the Neighbours' cats and stuffed them with Tuna so that they won't stray , and neighbours advised.
I spoke to the Security guard at the SIBA site - he's an animal lover, & has saved tidbits for my puppy in the past! - he knows nothing about poison on site, and there is nothing edible there to attract cats, dogs or rats anyway, but he will keep his eyes open for problems.
I will scour the area tomorrow when it is light, but it will help if I know what colour / shape / size / texture I'm looking for...
The Green Petrol Man lives behind me, not too far off, and his relatives next door to him have pets, so I'll let them know in the morning - I sometimes see him out for his 'constitutional' at 6a.m when I'm walking the dog...
The farmer opposite me is also part of the same family, but as he's got 17 cats, I doubt that he'd need to use poison to control any pests!
I'll keep you posted as much as I can, but more info from you would be great if you can manage it

So sorry to read what has happened to this poor little mite. I did read somewhere that the SIBA site was rendered toxic by the recent fire and a "clean up" would be a long and expensive process. I do not know the truth or otherwise of this and whether or not animals are safe to wander there. Keith confirms that animals in that vicinity are treated kindly. Whatever the cause I do hope the Pet will recover to full health and there are no further similar incidents of poisoning.

Many thanks for your kind comments and interest.
I have written to Keith off line.
DDs statement about the toxic waste may have some mileage. This early evening surface water was seen on the SIBA site. Cats don't seem to be too choosy as to the water they drink, especially when it is hot, so that site may be a possible cause.
FYI our cat is still on the danger list, but is in the best place at Pertev's clinic
Will keep you updated on the cat's situation.
Thanks once again.
Regards
Joe

It doeslook as if it could be toxic waste, especially as there seem to be mainly animal lovers living there. hope the cat mproves 'Joe' and will soon be running aorund again getting up to the kind of mischief that so many cats do.

Thank you Joe Soap for the extra info.
Turns out that we knew each other - to say 'Good Morning' to, at any rate.
Well we know each other a little better now!
The stuff that's soaked into the ground could be a problem for a while - and presumably when it gets absorbed and reaches the water table, we'll all get a bit...

it is all a bit frightening. Could be that people here just do not know the dangers involved to all, and it could be that the owners of the site do not know what to do, nor afford to do it, or maybe have asked the Government and waiting for a response> But I think further investigation is required, for I know I would be deeply concerned about this gettinginto the water table - something many people here are not aware of.
It is bad enough that this place has an exceptionally high incidence of cancer which (according to an expert) could be related to chemicals in the water table especially from Guzelyurt area and the mines, sobetter that other things are nipped in the bud if at all possible. Wonder if theMinister of Health knows, or as I say, whether there is in fact dialogue between the site and the Government. Definitley a case for further investigation.
what ideas do others have? I would be terrified of my cats going in the wrong place, and I hate to see animals suffer, but for those of you living in the area, it must be a realnightmare.
