Pity The Farmers

I was driving on the back road (past the new dam) to Lefkosa yesterday and noticed that all the cereals were looking yellowish instead of green. I commented to my TC passenger and he replied that a few days ago the Ministry had formally declared this year's harvest lost due to lack of rain. Apparently it can't recover now as, even if it grows at all, it won't grow tall enough for the combines to manage.
Farmers can graze it with animals or plough it in as they wish and they will be paid compensation (government assessment) according to their costs to date. But nothing for loss of profit and many of these arable guys are purely arable so they will presumably have a hard time of it this year.
TRNC's needs will be imported from Turkey.
