Hi all,

I see the issue come up quite frequently about credit cards and online payments. One such online company in North Cyprus (no names) .. has a very nice website, which on the face of it, will let you login, send all your details to 'open an account'. Cool I thought.

So after the 4th and 5th attempt to login, (received email confirmation) it kept saying, I was unauthorised to do so. The site has an online chat to resolve problems, even better, and they speak English too. Great!

To cut a long story short .. you CANNOT open an online account with them UNTIL you go into their shop. Okay, but it doesn't say that on the website. I am awaiting their reply to the 'Customer Satisfaction' report I completed .. online.

Ps does anyone here pay for Services to a North Cyprus company online, and how does it work .. ie How to you pay online?

I use Multimax as a supplier for my Internet Service.

I pay them, once a year, either on-line or over the 'phone.

They then, rather apologetically, request that I visit their premises to sign a contract, despite the fact that they have already had my money!

I can't imagine that they do this for their own amusement, in fact they tell me that it is a legal requirement, so that could also be the case with other on-line transactions - they may be required by TRNC law to have some form of written agreement to empower them to complete on-line transactions and to demand payment from the Banks.

This is only supposition on my part, but as nobody has come up with anything else so far...

Thank you for your response. You hit the nail on the head so to speak.....

I'll investigate a little further, it does seem rather strange how the system for online payment is here. What I was trying to learn, was .. what system (Payments) they were using to do online transactions. (I know that certain merchants can do 'without customer present' payments, they only need your last 3 digits, on reverse of the card, which once you have divulged, they have a record. Always check statements against receipts.)

The security here is pretty good, never had a problem ... We even had Chip and Pin in Kyrenia when it first came out .. and that was in the old Astro market. So in terms of technology, we're not behind.

Information Technologies and Communication Authority that we need to be a member of in order to have 'Internet Service Providers License' requires us to keep written up-to-date signed contracts with our customers.

This is a requirement by our regulator. We are actively pushing for digital signage laws to come in effect so that you can 'digitally sign' contracts online but until then, there is pretty much nothing we can do.
