Hi
Did I once read on this forum that it was illegal to have bonfires on your property, and if you do you can get fined?
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers

Research via the 'search' in the 'law' section of this forum reveals the fact bonfires are illegal. However, my advice would be to check with your local police station. At least then, you'll have the official version. Bon chance!

Ask your belediye, they will know. It used to be illegal to have a bonfire in Lapta area during the summer months - possibly May to September - but OK during the winter. The belediye will fine you if their rules are not adhered to.

You need to formally notify the District Office, local Police and Muhtar - who will set a date for your fire.
Get the forms from your Muhtar, fill them in (he will give you a date or range of dates) and get them stamped by him and the Kaymakam (District Office). Stamped copies to the Police and the Muhtar.
As a courtesy, call the police and remind them the day before. This is because the Watch that processed your form may be different from the Watch on duty at the time of the bonfire and the former may have neglected to inform the latter.
It's unlikely you'll get a date much after April or much before November.

When is a bonfire not a bonfire. I suspect it depends on whether you are referring to someone having a burn up in their garden or one that is celebrating a particular day i.e. 5th November and public are attending.

The procedure outlined above is that governing the burning of garden rubbish by households and farmers.
For November 5th and other such Celebrations the permissions process is much more complicated, with on-site inspections by the fire brigade and police, and controls as to water availability amongst other things.
