Revenue stamps

Are the 'revenue stamps' one needs to apply for residency different from ordinary postage stamps? Just went to the post office (speaking my toddlers' Turkish) and they were unsure. Is it just ordinary postage stamps?

Also, does anyone know if it is still just 14 TL of stamps I need, before I go to police station to start the process? (I already have my letter from Muhtar, with stamps.)

Thank you!

As far as I know, the answer is yes, they are different. We have asked for 'damga' in the past and that seems to work. If you are renewing then you don't need stamps until you go to Lefkosa to get the visa stamp in your passport. You can buy the correct stamps in the cafe there for a little bit extra.

Sorry just reread your post and it sounds like your first time, so you will need stamps at police station. The BRS website says 14TL as of last June so I imagine it will be a bit more as the charges normally go up every January. Hopefully, someone who's done it this year will respond.

Any one know if it's gone up?

Thank you, Aylin. Yes, this is my first application. If I can buy them at police station, that's fine.

Sorry, you can buy them at immigration in Lefkosa but not at the police station in Girne. For first application you will need to get the stamps in advance but I don't know the latest cost.

You can also buy the stamps at the little cafe which is to the right of the entrance to the police station opposite the market. They also do photocopying.

Just started our own residency process (first time) last week

Now need 15TL stamp (not 14 as on the BRS website). Got our extra 1TL stamp at the restaurant by the gate to the police station.

Also needed a photocopy of our white entry papers (the ones that are no longer required!). These had been stamped when we came in through Ercan at the end of January. Again got these done at the restaurant.

Mogli597, I came via Larnaca a few days ago and also last November and in February. I have not been given any stamped papers when I entered TRNC on any trip, and there is no TRNC stamp of any kind in my passport. Went back and forth across Green Line for shopping a few days ago--no issues with my (unstamped) passport. However, given what you said, I'm a bit concerned now, but we shall see what happens when I go to police station!

Hi we did our first residency this December gone, we didn't have the old white visa or stamps in our passports so they checked on their system at the police station and confirmed with us when we had come into the country.

When we made our first application some years ago we had to get a copy of the ins and outs from the police station. Its all on computer.

It may be that we were asked for copies of our white entry chits because they were in our passports when we handed over all the documentation at the police station in Girne.
If you don't have one they might not be required - as Gary and Shirley says they have it all on the computer anyway.
Interestingly we've just been over to Ledra Street today. On the way back, my wife asked how long we had left on our original 90 days since we entered at the end of January - because we'd started the temp residency process and didn't want our visa to run out before it was complete.
"Sure you don't need it because you're both over 60, but I'll add 90 days to it now anyway." said the kind lady in the kiosk.
Just another example of the kindness and helpfulness we generally meet - and one of the reasons why we've decided to settle here permanently having just retired

Went to Girne police today. You still need TL15 stamps, and they cost TL18 if you buy from cafe nearby. An entrepreneurial people.

Others have had problems with residency process if they are renting (rather than buying). I gave police a copy of my stamped rental contract. No problem so far. We shall see what happens in Lefkosa.

Thanks to all for your advice.

Completed our temp residency process today at Lefkosa. Followed the BRS process and map. Only difference is that the stamps cost TL13 for each of us at the cafeteria (so presumably it's now TL11.50 each if you bring your own). No problem at all with the fact that we are renting - we only have a 6month rental agreement at the moment (tax paid and stamped).
Cost was TL283 each for 1 year.
The very helpful lady explained that next year when we renew we only need our passport, muhtar's letter and rental agreement. No need for the police station or blood tests. We are both over 60.

If you are 60+, you have the option on not renewing your 'visitor' status passport stamp in Lefkosa. Should you elect to do so, you'll need the form provided in addition to the documentation you listed and you can get 2 years coverage.
