My partner has let his friend stay in our house rent free for nearly four years and insists he is doing us a favour .My opinion is there are lots of people out there who would do this favour for us and wouldn't take the rise and do things to our house without consulting us first.I no longer recognise my own furniture or garden and my personal belongings which were put away are on my walls. How many out there would consider looking after my house?.It is a large house ,non estate in Catalkoy on the sea side .Would love to hear other people's opinion on this.

I can't think that there would be many people out there who would be willing to engage in a 'Turf War' with your partner and his friend!

Not the most convivial of environments...

My opinion, since you asked for it, is that you need to sort out your relationship with your partner, and discuss it sensibly with him.

I was just wondering how many people out there would like to live somewhere for free

Personally, I think if you agree to house sit for someone you have a moral obligation to look after it and the contents as if they were your own. However, before doing so it would be prudent to know in advance just how that person would look after their own home. Not everybody is careful with belongings and appreciates the value of possessions.

I would think most people would welcome the opportunity to live rent free if given the chance and reward that generosity with what I have said above.
