Does anyone have any idea what on earth is causing the huge traffic jams on the main road to Girne between 8-10am. The re are no roadworks and any accidents are those caused by the jam .

Went into town just after midday from east side. Initially we decided to drive thro Catalkoy village down to the main drag but had to yurn around on the edge of the village as traffic jam in village. Police presence on side of road between Sah and Supreme supermarkets. Long queues of traffic coming out of town. Returned at around 1:45pm, police still parked up including a coach with Polis on the side, plus lots of cars parked on the side of the roads and also in surrounding shops.

No idea why tho.

Posh, that is where the police generally stop random vehicles for paperwork checks. You can normally tell when it is happening by the number of drivers flashing their lights at you as you are approaching the checking point!

Having got home and thought about it, we dont think it was police vehicle checks. Given that the police were not actually pulling anyone over and no sign of speed guns. Just a couple of police cars parked up and a coach with Polis on the side. When we returned home there were lots of vehicles pulled over on the roadside and parked on surrounding streets.

Maybe a funeral or some sort of demonstration?

There was a large convoy of military vehicles with police escort heading from Kyrenia to Nicosia around 8.30 this morning that held up traffic for a while. Could be related.

I got rear ended by a TIR lorry across from Salty's, impatient SOB coming in to roundabout from harbour, luckily minimal damage , he bumped me three times before he even realized I was there.

That roundabout is an accident waiting to happen. Three separate times last week the car in front of me was half way round then stopped dead to let traffic in from the New Harbour road. Thats not really the idea of a roundabout is it?

No but if they can not clear the roundabout all they are going to do is block the roundabout so it does make sense to me

There was nothing in front of the car that would have blocked anything only him stuck in the middle of the road.If there was a blockage letting more cars in from the left isnt going to help is it?

Turkey adopts the Stupid French idea of giving way to traffic entering the roundabout quite possibly a mainland Turk or someone that subscribes to that defective method of driving
