Nice to see they are doing something for the Military wives. Shame they never did anything for the husbands of ex military wives who died and the husbands lost all their pensions! I think it was 1988 that the military actually said that the female military could have the same pension rights as the male military. Just for understanding: A good friend of mine served 24 years and his wife also served 22 years, both left the service in 1989. Pensions were paid to both from that day forward, if he had died then she would have received half of his military pension for life. Sadly she died so now all he gets is half of her military pension "for time served after 1988" - so he ends up with half of one years pension! Financially it nearly crippled him but the military and the government said "Hard Luck", she has died and you don't get her pension that she paid for.

I think the fact that they actually paid the reduced NI cont. married woman's stamp precludes them from the benefit is outrageous... given that the DHSS advice at that time was that paying it was the best way to protect their rights ....
